Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a Husqvarna TS 146X tractor, providing comprehensive instructions for its assembly, operation, and maintenance in both English and Spanish.

Function Description:

The Husqvarna TS 146X is a riding lawn tractor designed for mowing and general yard work. It features an internal combustion engine and is equipped with various controls for steering, speed, braking, and attachment operation. The tractor is designed for both forward and reverse movement, with specific safety systems in place for reverse operation. It can be used with a mower deck and other attachments, making it versatile for different tasks.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Gasoline Capacity and Type: 3 Gallons (11.35 L) of Unleaded Regular gasoline. Gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol (E10) is acceptable; exceeding 10% ethanol will void the product warranty.
  • Oil Type (API: SJ-SN): SAE 30 (above 32°F/0°C) or SAE 5W30 (below 32°F/0°C).
  • Oil Capacity: 64 oz. (1.89 L) with filter, 60 oz. (1.77 L) without filter.
  • Spark Plug: Champion RC12YC, with a gap of .030" (0.76 mm).
  • Spark Plug Torque: 180 lb-in (20 Nm).
  • Charging System: 3 Amps Battery, 5 Amps Headlights.
  • Battery: 28 Amp/Hr, Min. CCA: 230, Case Size: U1R.
  • Blade Bolt Torque: 45-55 FT. LBS. (62-75 Nm).
  • Engine: Briggs & Stratton Endurance engine with Ready-Start automatic choke system.
  • Transmission: Hydrostatic transmission (automatic models only) with a freewheel control for pushing or towing.
  • Slope Operation: Not recommended for slopes greater than 15 degrees.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: The tractor includes an attachment lift lever (A) for raising/lowering attachments, a brake pedal (B) for braking and engine starting, a parking brake (C) to lock the pedal, a throttle/choke control (D) for engine speed, an attachment clutch lever (E) for engaging mower blades, an ignition switch (F) for starting/stopping, a Reverse Operation System (ROS) "ON" position (G) for reverse mowing, a light switch (H), a cruise control lever (J), forward (K) and reverse (L) drive pedals, a freewheel control (M) for disengaging the transmission, and a service minder/hour meter (P).
  • Starting: The engine features a Ready-Start automatic choke system for simplified starting. The brake pedal must be fully depressed, and the attachment clutch control must be in the "DISENGAGED" position to start the engine.
  • Stopping: To stop the engine, move the throttle control to the slow position, turn the ignition key to "STOP," and remove the key. Always set the parking brake before leaving the operator's position.
  • Mowing: Operate the engine at full speed (fast) for best mower performance. The mower deck height is adjustable via the attachment lift lever (A) and gauge wheels. The manual provides guidance on mowing patterns for large areas and handling tall or wet grass.
  • Reverse Operation System (ROS): Allows the mower or other powered attachments to operate while in reverse when the ignition key is in the ROS "ON" position. However, backing up with the attachment clutch engaged is strongly discouraged and should only be done when absolutely necessary for repositioning.
  • Cruise Control: The cruise control lever (J) can be used to set forward movement at a desired speed without holding the forward drive pedal.
  • Hills: Drive up and down hills, not across them, and avoid slopes greater than 15 degrees. Maintain slow speeds and avoid stopping or changing speed on hills.
  • Transport: For pushing or towing, the freewheel control (M) must be in the disengaged position. Do not push or tow the tractor at more than 2 mph (3.2 km/h).
  • Attachments: The tractor can tow recommended attachments. Overloading on slopes is dangerous.

Maintenance Features:

  • Maintenance Schedule: A detailed schedule outlines routine checks and services, including brake operation, tire pressure, operator presence and ROS systems, loose fasteners, mower blades, lubrication, battery level, engine oil, air filter, air screen, muffler/spark arrester, engine cooling fins, spark plug, and fuel filter.
  • Engine Oil: Check engine oil level before each use. Change engine oil (and filter if equipped) periodically, more often under heavy load or dusty conditions.
  • Fuel System: Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline. For storage, it's recommended to empty the fuel system or use a fuel stabilizer to prevent gum deposits.
  • Battery Care: Keep battery and terminals clean and tight. Periodic charging with an automotive charger will extend battery life. The original battery is maintenance-free.
  • Blade Care: Mower blades must be kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged blades. Blade removal and installation instructions are provided, including proper torque specifications.
  • Tires: Maintain proper air pressure as indicated on the tire sidewalls. Avoid damage from stumps, stones, and sharp objects.
  • Cleaning: Clean the engine, battery, seat, and other surfaces of foreign matter and debris. Avoid using a garden hose or pressure washer on the tractor unless the engine and transmission are covered, as water can shorten the tractor's useful life.
  • Transmission Purging: Before first use or after transmission removal/replacement, the transmission must be purged to remove trapped air.
  • Adjustments: Instructions are provided for adjusting the seat, mower deck levelness (side-to-side and front-to-rear), and checking the brake system.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting guide helps identify and resolve common issues related to starting, engine performance, cutting quality, and electrical systems.
  • Unassembled Parts: Instructions for connecting the battery and adjusting the seat are provided as part of the initial assembly.
