Installing Internal Drives
Preinstallation Steps (All Bays)
Before you install drives in your server, verify that you have all of
the cables, drive trays, and any other equipment specified in the
documentation that comes with the drive. You might also need to
perform certain preinstallation activities. Some of the steps are
required only during the initial installation of an option. Refer to
the following table.
Before you begin:
Be sure you have:
Read “Electrical Safety” on page 161 and “Handling
Static-Sensitive Devices” on page 162.
Read the documentation that comes with the internal drive.
Opened the front cover. If you are installing or removing
backplanes, cables, the fan assembly, and adapters, also
remove the server side cover (see “Preparing to Install
Options” on page 163).

Notes:
1. Bank C comes with a preinstalled hot-swap backplane.
2. Another power supply must be installed by an IBM service technician (if not
previously installed).
3. Bank C comes with a SCSI-2 cable that connects the SCSI-2 adapter to the
SCSI-2 input connector on the backplane.
