Installing PeerMaster LAN Software
hardware problem with the PeerMaster adapter. For more
information on POST errors, see “PeerMaster Adapter Screen
Messages” on page 330.
Loading the Network Device Drivers
Your PeerMaster adapter comes with two network device drivers:
MXPCI4BT.LAN: This is the base device driver for using your
PeerMaster adapter. Once loaded and bound to a protocol, this
device driver enables your PeerMaster adapter to deliver the
functions associated with traditional network adapters.
VNET.LAN: This device driver enables several ports to be
bound to a protocol, such as internetwork packet exchange
(IPX), as a single VNET. VNETs enable PeerMaster adapters to
provide high-performance Ethernet switching functions
transparently under Novell NetWare.
It is necessary to understand pseudo slot numbers to load PeerMaster
device drivers. Traditional Novell NetWare device drivers use
expansion-slot numbers to associate specific LAN segments with
device-driver instances. PeerMaster adapters, however, provide
multiple LAN segments per expansion slot. For this reason, pseudo
slot numbers are used to uniquely identify each of the four ports on
a PeerMaster adapter. Pseudo slot numbers are two-digit, decimal
numbers, xy, where x is the unique BIOS or Flash slot number
assigned to the target PeerMaster adapter and y is the PeerMaster
adapter port number being configured. For example, a pseudo slot
number of 23 represents port 3 of the PeerMaster adapter
configured as slot number 2.
Most Significant Digit = Slot Number
(Slot 1, 2, 3, ..., 8)
The configured slot number is the number that you assigned to the
PeerMaster adapter. See “Using the PeerMaster Setup Utility
Program” on page 143 for more information.
Least Significant Digit = Port Number
(Port 1, 2, 3, 4)
