UTP connections through a 6299
• The maximum distance between the host and the 6299 is
670.5 meters (2200 feet) using category 5 (CAT
5)
wiring.
• The maximum distance between the 6299 and any
workstation is 670.5 meters (2200 feet) using CAT 5 wiring.
Note: The 6299 does not support operation in 2 Mbps mode.
UTP connections to the host through a 7299
The IBM 7299 will support operation in 2 Mbps mode. For
information about distances to the host, see the documentation
provided with the 7299.
When twinaxial cabling is used between the host and the hub, the
following rules apply:
UTP connections through a 5299
• In 1 Mbps mode, the maximum distance between the host and
the 5299 or any workstation is 609.6 meters (2000 feet). The
maximum distance between the 5299 and any workstation is
274.3 meters (900 feet).
• In 2 Mbps mode, the maximum distances are those listed in
Table
2.
For distances that are not listed, determine the
distance from the values given in Table
2.
For example,
if
you used 274.3 meters (900 feet)
of
twinax between the 5299
and the host, you could use up to 137.l meters (450 feet)
of
TTP
to
connect each workstation.
