MODULE RESET PROCEDURE

Overview

The iDatalink CMVWXAO is a comprehensive remote starter and control module designed for Volkswagen vehicles, offering enhanced convenience and security features. This device integrates seamlessly with your vehicle's existing systems, providing remote start capabilities and various programmable options.

Function Description

At its core, the CMVWXAO module enables remote starting of your Volkswagen vehicle, allowing you to warm up or cool down the interior before entering. Beyond basic remote start, it acts as a central control unit that can be configured to manage several vehicle functions. The module supports both analog and data-based tach signal programming, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of VW models.

The system includes a programming button on the module itself, which is crucial for initial setup and various programming procedures. LED indicators (LED 1 and LED 2) provide visual feedback during programming, diagnostics, and normal operation, guiding the installer through each step.

For remote control, the CMVWXAO is designed to work with compatible RF kits and telematics solutions. These accessories, sold separately, extend the functionality to include keyless entry, lock/unlock, and potentially other AUX functions, depending on the specific RF kit and vehicle capabilities. The module can store programming for up to four remote transmitters, allowing multiple users to control the vehicle remotely.

The device also features a Valet Mode, which disables the remote starter functionality while keeping keyless entry and lock/unlock features active. This is particularly useful when the vehicle is being serviced or parked by a valet, preventing unintended remote starts.

Usage Features

The CMVWXAO offers a user-friendly programming experience, primarily through a series of ignition cycles, brake pedal presses, and button interactions on the module or antenna.

  • Tach Programming: This procedure ensures the module accurately detects the engine's RPM for proper remote start operation. It involves starting the vehicle, pressing and holding the brake pedal, and then interacting with the module's programming button. LED 2 flashes green to confirm successful tach programming.

  • Remote Programming: To link remote transmitters to the module, a specific sequence of ignition cycles and antenna button presses is followed. The antenna's LEDs provide feedback, turning solid blue during the process and flashing blue for each successfully paired remote. The system supports up to four remotes.

  • Valet Mode Activation/Deactivation: Valet Mode is engaged or disengaged through a sequence involving rapid ignition cycles and brake pedal presses. Parking lights flash to confirm entry into or exit from Valet Mode. This feature is essential for security and convenience when the remote start function is not desired.

  • Online Module Settings: For advanced configuration, the CMVWXAO can be connected to a computer via a Weblink cable or a mobile device via a Weblink Mobile accessory (both sold separately). This allows access to a web-based interface where various parameters can be customized. These include:

    • Remote Starter Options: Configuration of RS-related settings.
    • Doorlock Options: Customization of convenience features related to door locks.
    • Security Options: Settings for alarm activation and other security features.
    • AUX Function Assignments: Mapping auxiliary functions to specific buttons on the remote transmitters.
    • Programmable Outputs (POC): Defining actions for various programmable outputs.
    • Pulse Timer Output Configuration (PTO): Setting the duration for pulse timer outputs.
    • Input Configurations: Defining inputs for firmware, data, or analog signals.
    • Output Configurations: Defining outputs for firmware, data, or analog signals. These online settings provide a high degree of flexibility, allowing installers to tailor the module's behavior to specific vehicle requirements and user preferences.
  • Module Diagnostics: The module provides diagnostic feedback through LED 1, which indicates the status during programming, remote start attempts, and general operation. Different flash patterns and colors correspond to specific conditions, such as missing firmware, waiting for vehicle information, successful programming, tach signal status (analog, data, or not detected), valet mode, and various error states. This diagnostic system is invaluable for troubleshooting and ensuring correct installation.

  • Remote Starter Error Codes: In the event of a remote start failure, the vehicle's parking lights will flash a specific number of times to indicate an error code. These codes cover a range of issues, including engine running, key in ignition, open doors/trunk/hood, foot brake engaged, tach failure, vehicle movement, valet mode, CAN communication failure, and bypass problems.

  • Remote Starter Shutdown Error Codes: If the engine shuts down unexpectedly after a remote start sequence, the parking lights will flash a different set of codes. These codes help diagnose issues such as lost engine tach signal, emergency brake disengagement, foot brake engagement, open hood, engine RPM limiter activation, glow plug timeout, vehicle movement, open door, CAN communication failure during RS, and takeover not allowed.

Maintenance Features

The CMVWXAO is designed for reliable operation with minimal ongoing maintenance. However, certain procedures are available for troubleshooting or resetting the device if needed.

  • Module Reset Procedure: This procedure allows the installer to reset the module's programming to the vehicle. It involves disconnecting most connectors, then pressing and holding the programming button while reconnecting specific power connectors. LED 1 will flash red to indicate the reset process. It's important to note that this procedure only resets the vehicle programming and does not revert any online settings configured via Weblink. A warning is provided that failure to follow this procedure correctly may result in a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) or a CHECK ENGINE error message.
  • Installation Warnings: The manual emphasizes the importance of proper installation by a certified technician to prevent electrical damage to the vehicle or the device. It also highlights the need to review the installation guide carefully before starting any work.
  • Accessory Requirements: The manual clearly states that some accessories, such as the Weblink cable, Weblink Mobile, and RF kits, are required for full functionality and are sold separately. It directs users to the manufacturer's website to identify all necessary accessories and T-harnesses for a complete installation.
  • Warning Stickers: The inclusion of "WARNING! THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A REMOTE STARTER. DISABLE PRIOR TO VEHICLE MAINTENANCE" stickers is a crucial safety feature, reminding service technicians to disable the remote start system before performing any maintenance.

In summary, the iDatalink CMVWXAO is a sophisticated and versatile remote start and control module for Volkswagen vehicles, offering a rich set of features for convenience, security, and customization. Its comprehensive programming and diagnostic tools, combined with clear instructions and online configurability, make it a powerful solution for enhancing the vehicle ownership experience.
