The Ideal Vogue Max Combi boiler is a wall-mounted, room-sealed, condensing combination boiler designed for both central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water. It features a full sequence automatic spark ignition and fan-assisted combustion, ensuring efficient operation. Due to its high efficiency, the boiler produces condensate from flue gases, which is drained through a plastic waste pipe at the base of the boiler. A condensate 'plume' may also be visible at the flue terminal.
Technical Specifications:
The Vogue Max Combi is available in three natural gas models:
- 26: G.C. Appliance No. 47-349-59
- 32: G.C. Appliance No. 47-349-60
- 40: G.C. Appliance No. 47-349-61
Minimum Clearances:
- Above: 165mm
- Below: 100mm (can be reduced to 5mm after installation with an easily removable panel for servicing)
- Sides: 2.5mm
- Front (when built into a cupboard): 5mm from the cupboard door, but 450mm overall clearance is required with the cupboard door open for servicing.
Water Temperature Control:
- Domestic Hot Water (DHW): The DHW temperature is limited by the boiler controls to a maximum of 65°C at low draw-off rates. This can be adjusted via the Domestic Hot Water temperature control knob (F). Approximate hot water temperatures for the boiler thermostat settings range from 40°C (minimum) to 65°C (maximum).
- Central Heating (CH): The boiler controls the central heating radiator temperature to a maximum of 80°C, adjustable via the CH temperature control knob (E). Approximate central heating flow temperatures for the boiler thermostat settings range from 30°C (minimum) to 80°C (maximum).
Usage Features:
- Boiler Controls: The boiler features a colour screen display and several hot keys for operation. Key indicators include Domestic Hot Water/Preheat Status (A), Central Heating Status (B), Burner On indication (C), Hot Keys (D), Central Heating Temperature Control (E), Domestic Hot Water Temperature Control/Off Switch (F), Pressure Gauge (G), and Hot Key Identification Text (H).
- Lighting the Boiler: To light the boiler, switch ON electricity to the boiler and ensure all external controls (programmer, room thermostat) are ON. Set the Domestic Hot Water temperature control (F) and Central Heating temperature control (E) to 'max'. The boiler will then commence its ignition sequence.
- Operation Modes:
- Central Heating and Domestic Hot Water: The boiler prioritizes DHW on demand while supplying heat to radiators.
- Domestic Hot Water Only: Set the Central Heating temperature control knob (E) to 'off' or turn off external CH controls.
- Pre-heat Function: If selected, the boiler will periodically fire for a few seconds to maintain the DHW calorifier in a pre-heated condition. This pre-heat occurs once every 30 minutes and can be immobilised if the boiler is in a sensitive area.
- Weather Compensation: If fitted, the Central Heating Temperature Control knob (E) controls room temperature. Turning it clockwise increases room temperature, and anti-clockwise decreases it. The system automatically adjusts for outside weather conditions once the desired setting is achieved.
- Frost Protection: The boiler has built-in frost protection, firing if the temperature drops below 5°C. For short absences, leave heating controls at a reduced setting. For longer periods, the system should be drained. If a frost thermostat is included, leave the timer off and mains supply ON with the boiler thermostat in the normal running position.
- Display Functions: The colour screen displays various operational statuses, including:
- Boiler Switched Off
- All taps and showers off, timer or room stat switched off
- Central Heating switched off
- Boiler providing hot water at 60°C
- Boiler providing Central Heating at 80°C
- Boiler Frost Protection Active (with temperature indication)
- Boiler pre-heating
- Service Due message
- Changing Settings:
- Hot Water Temperature: Rotate the Domestic Hot Water knob (F) to select the desired temperature (40°C to 65°C).
- Maximum Radiator Temperature: Rotate the Central Heating knob (E) to select the desired temperature (30°C to 80°C).
- Switching Heating On/Off: Rotate the Central Heating knob (E) clockwise to switch on, and fully anti-clockwise to switch off.
- Disabling DHW and CH: Rotate the Domestic Hot Water knob (F) fully anti-clockwise (frost protection remains active).
- Room Temperature Set Point: If an outside sensor is connected, rotate the Central Heating knob (E) to change the room temperature set point (10°C to 30°C).
- Menu Operation: Press the MENU button to access options like "SHOW EFFICIENCY LEVEL," "HOT WATER PREHEAT ON / OFF," and "SERVICE COMPANY NAME."
- Pre-heat On/Off: Select "HOT WATER PREHEAT ON / OFF" from the menu to toggle between "FASTER HOT WATER RESPONSE" (ON) and "MORE EFFICIENT OPERATION" (OFF).
- Efficiency Level: Select "SHOW EFFICIENCY LEVEL" from the menu to view the boiler's current efficiency percentage.
Safety Features:
- Boiler Overheat Protection: The boiler will shut down in case of overheating, displaying an "OVERHEAT LOCKOUT" message. The display provides instructions to fill the system, bleed radiators, check valves, and restart.
- Loss of System Water Pressure: The pressure gauge (G) indicates system pressure. If it falls below 0.5 bar, the boiler will not operate and display a "LOW WATER PRESSURE" message. Instructions are provided for re-pressurizing the system using the filling loop.
- Ignition Lockout: If the boiler fails to light after 5 ignition attempts, an "IGNITION LOCKOUT" message will appear, prompting checks for gas supply and a restart.
- Condensate Drain: The appliance is fitted with a siphonic condensate trap system to reduce the risk of freezing. Instructions are provided for unblocking a frozen condensate pipe using warm water (not boiling) and for preventative measures during cold weather.
- Gas Safety: In case of a suspected gas leak, contact the National Gas Emergency Service immediately (Tel. 0800 111 999). DO NOT search for gas leaks with a naked flame.
Maintenance Features:
- Servicing: The appliance should be serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer (UK) or a Registered Gas Installer (RGII) (IE).
- Reset Service Time: If a service is due, a message will be displayed. The service interval can be reset via the MENU, allowing the user to set the desired number of days until the next service.
- Cleaning: For normal cleaning, dust with a dry cloth. For stubborn marks, wipe with a damp cloth and finish with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning materials.
- Fault Finding: The boiler displays fault descriptions and suggested corrective actions. Common issues addressed include hot water working but no central heating, low hot water temperature, blank boiler display, inability to increase CH flow temperature setpoint, and too many restarts.
Ideal Boilers Ltd. reserves the right to levy a charge for service visits if the problem is found to be external to the boiler or if access is not gained by the engineer. It is recommended to check the provided fault-finding guide before requesting a service engineer's visit.
