How does the home phoneline network differ from 10BaseT Ether-
net networks?
The home phoneline network (supported on 82562EH based Phoneline
Desktop Adapters and Network Connections) uses regular telephone wir-
ing instead of Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cabling.
It uses RJ-11 rather than RJ-45 connectors, and so cannot be intermixed.
It requires no hubs, routers or switches typically associated with an ether-
net network.
The wiring can span up to 500 feet.
Can a home phoneline network co-exist with telephone equipment
and modems?
Yes. The same wiring can be used for all telephone communications equip-
ment and the home phoneline network.
It uses the second pair of wires, which are normally not used. If the wire
pair is used, it does not interfere with other telephone devices.
