INSTALLATION:
Passive Infrared occupancy sensors are designed to sense the motion of objects or bodies that are
radiating heat. These sensors are installed to monitor areas where there are limited physical obstructions
that could block the sensor’s field of vision.
HOW THEY WORK: The human body naturally radiates heat in the form of infrared energy. As a body
crosses through the sensor’s field of vision, it “sees” the motion as a change in the pattern of infrared
energy it is receiving.
1. Mount sensor in location with clear view of area to be monitored using included tilt-swivel base or
adhesive strips.
2. Separate rear housing from front by lifting upwards, install three (3) AA alkaline batteries in front housing
and reattach to rear housing.
3.
4.
Operation: Press the activator button to enable and disable the sensor. Set the mode selector switch to
desired mode: Pulse, 5 Min delay, 10 Min delay, 15 Min Delay or Manual Off mode.

Overview

The Intermatic Model CA9000 is a Passive Infrared (PIR) Occupancy Sensor designed to provide a brighter solution for wireless control in various environments. This device is Z-Wave™ enabled, ensuring full compatibility with any Z-Wave enabled network. Z-Wave enabled devices are identifiable by the Z-Wave logo, guaranteeing seamless connectivity and interoperability. The CA9000 is built to enhance reliability through its mesh network capability, where each line-powered node acts as a repeater, effectively eliminating radio "dead spots" and ensuring robust signal transmission.

The primary function of the CA9000 PIR Occupancy Sensor is to detect motion based on infrared energy emitted by objects or bodies. These sensors are specifically designed for monitoring areas with minimal physical obstructions that could impede the sensor's field of vision. The underlying principle of operation is that the human body naturally radiates infrared energy. When a body moves across the sensor's field of vision, the sensor perceives this motion as a change in the pattern of received infrared energy, triggering its functions.

One of the key usage features of the CA9000 is its ability to provide multiple location On/Off control when integrated with other Z-Wave enabled devices. This allows for flexible and convenient management of lighting or other connected systems across different areas. For enhanced control, the sensor supports pre-set scene control when used with up to five Z-Wave enabled devices, enabling users to recall specific environmental settings with a single command. When paired with the Intermatic InTouch™ server (CA5500B), the CA9000 expands its scene control capabilities to a full 229 devices, offering comprehensive automation possibilities for larger or more complex setups.

The sensor's design incorporates twin pyro sensor elements, which contribute to its high accuracy and reliability in motion detection. Its wide detection pattern is engineered to provide whole-room coverage, minimizing the need for multiple sensors in a single space. The CA9000 offers versatile mounting options to suit various installation needs. It features an adjustable swivel neck that can rotate 30° vertically and 30° horizontally, allowing for precise aiming and coverage optimization. Alternatively, it can be mounted flat on a wall or in a corner, providing flexibility for different room layouts.

Another important usage feature is the adjustable timing interval, which allows users to customize how long the connected devices remain active after motion is no longer detected. The sensor offers several timing options, including a pulse setting, 5-minute, 10-minute, and 15-minute delay ranges, as well as a Manual Off mode for complete user control. This flexibility helps in energy conservation by ensuring that lights or other systems are not left on unnecessarily. The CA9000 also meets ASHRAE Standard 90.1 requirements, underscoring its energy efficiency and compliance with industry standards.

For installation, the sensor should be mounted in a location that offers a clear view of the area to be monitored. It comes with an included tilt-swivel base or adhesive strips for easy setup. To prepare the device for operation, the rear housing needs to be separated from the front by lifting upwards, allowing for the installation of three (3) AA alkaline batteries into the front housing. Once the batteries are in place, the rear housing can be reattached. Operation is straightforward: the activator button is used to enable or disable the sensor, and the mode selector switch is used to set the desired timing mode (Pulse, 5 Min delay, 10 Min delay, 15 Min Delay, or Manual Off). For detailed programming instructions, users should refer to the InTouch Installer & Users Guide (158CA12789).

The CA9000 operates on a 908.42 MHz frequency, providing a minimum indoor range of 50 feet and an outdoor range of 100 feet. Its mesh network architecture, where each line-powered node acts as a repeater, ensures that distant signals are routed effectively, enhancing overall system reliability. The data rate for communication is 9600 bits/second, and the system can support up to 232 Z-Wave™ nodes, making it suitable for both small and extensive home automation systems.

Maintenance features primarily involve battery replacement and adherence to installation guidelines. The device uses three (3) AA alkaline batteries, which will need to be replaced periodically. The wall-pack transformer, with an input of 120VAC, 50/60Hz and an output of 9VDC 500mA (CATRFM), provides power when not running on batteries. The operating temperature range is from 32°F (0°C) to 104°F (40°C), ensuring reliable performance in typical indoor environments.

The product comes with a Limited Ten Year Warranty, which covers defects in material or workmanship from the date of purchase. Intermatic Incorporated will repair or replace the product at its sole option. This warranty is specific to the original purchaser and is not transferable. It explicitly excludes labor for removal or reinstallation and does not cover damages caused by accident, abuse, mishandling, dropping, acts of God, negligent use, unauthorized repair, opening, taking apart, modification, or use not in accordance with directions. Damages exceeding the cost of the product are also not covered.
