3. Moving over from using granules to logs
o Remove ash from the ash pan to ensure that air holes in the crucible are free from obstruction.
o Set the granules dial to minimum output.
o Set the air regulators to “Logs” (see page 11) and place small pieces of chopped wood on the granule flame. Do not block the granule
feed (diagram below)
o Once the logs are alight, stop the granule feed and poke the air holes in the crucible to ensure that they are free from obstruction.
o Load additional logs once there are sufficient embers and refer to section 1- USING WOOD / LOGS
4. Moving over from logs to granules:
To move over to using granules:
o Allow the wood to burn down to reduce the embers to a minimum.
o Set the air regulators to “granules” (page 11)
o Use a poker to flatten the embers in the crucible and check that granule supply is not hindered by any wood. (see diagram below)
o Remove any ash from beneath the crucible using a poker, empty the ash pan as necessary: The area directly beneath the crucible
in the ash pan must be clear of obstruction. (see diagram below).
