Overview

The Roomba e6 Robot Vacuum is an autonomous cleaning device designed to maintain well-conditioned floors. It operates by navigating a room, detecting dirt and debris, and systematically cleaning surfaces. The robot is equipped with various sensors and brushes to ensure thorough cleaning and obstacle avoidance.

Function Description

The Roomba e6 is a robot vacuum cleaner that automatically cleans floors. It is designed for dry floor use and should not be used to pick up spills. The robot utilizes a multi-surface brush system and an edge-sweeping brush to effectively capture dirt, dust, and debris from various floor types. It features Dirt Detect™ mode, which allows the robot to identify areas with higher concentrations of dirt and focus its cleaning efforts there, moving in a spiral motion for a more thorough clean. The robot is powered by a lithium-ion battery and returns to its Home Base™ charging station to recharge automatically. It can be controlled via the iRobot HOME App, which allows users to set cleaning schedules, customize cleaning preferences, and receive software updates. The robot also provides audible tones and a blinking troubleshooting indicator to communicate its status or any issues it encounters.

Usage Features

  • Automatic Cleaning: The robot can be set to clean automatically, returning to its Home Base™ when the cleaning cycle is complete or when its battery is low.
  • Home Base™ Charging Station: The Home Base™ serves as the robot's charging station. It should be placed in an open, uncluttered area with specific clearances to ensure proper navigation and charging. The robot automatically docks itself to recharge.
  • iRobot HOME App Connectivity: Users can download the iRobot HOME App to set up and use the robot, schedule cleaning times, customize cleaning preferences, and access tips and tricks. The app also enables automatic software updates for the robot.
  • Wi-Fi® Connectivity: The robot maintains Wi-Fi® connectivity to receive information and updates via the iRobot HOME App.
  • Spot Clean Feature: For targeted cleaning of specific spills or concentrated dirt, the Spot Clean feature can be activated. The robot will clean an area by spiraling outwards approximately 3 feet (1 meter) and then spiraling inwards.
  • Pause and Resume Cleaning: During a cleaning cycle, the robot can be paused by pressing the CLEAN button and resumed by pressing it again.
  • Return to Home Base™: The robot can be sent back to its Home Base™ during a cleaning cycle by pressing the CLEAN button followed by the Home button on the robot, or by using the iRobot HOME App.
  • Dirt Detect™ Mode: The robot automatically engages Dirt Detect™ mode when it encounters high concentrations of dirt or debris, cleaning the area more thoroughly in a spiral motion. The CLEAN button pulses when this mode is active.
  • Dual Mode Virtual Wall® Barrier: This accessory (compatible with all models) creates an invisible barrier to restrict the robot's movement to specific areas.
    • Virtual Wall Mode: Creates a linear barrier up to 10 feet (3 meters) long to block openings.
    • Halo Mode: Creates a circular barrier approximately 12 inches (30 centimeters) from the device's center to protect specific zones like pet bowls or vases.
  • Reduced Power Standby Mode: The robot can be put into a further-reduced power state when not in use to conserve energy, while still maintaining Wi-Fi® connectivity. Instructions for this mode are available in the iRobot HOME App.
  • Battery Management: The robot comes with a partially charged battery, but a full 3-hour charge on the Home Base™ is recommended before the first complete cleaning cycle. The Battery Indicator icon illuminates amber when charging and green when fully charged. Battery status can also be viewed in the iRobot HOME App.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for keeping the Roomba e6 running at peak performance. The iRobot HOME App provides additional instructional videos for these procedures.

  • Emptying the Bin:
    • The bin should be emptied after each use.
    • To empty, press the bin release button, open the bin door, and shake off debris.
    • The bin can be rinsed with warm water, but it is not dishwasher safe.
    • Ensure the bin is completely dry before reinserting it into the robot.
  • Cleaning the Filter:
    • The filter should be cleaned every week (twice a week if you have a pet) and replaced every two months.
    • To clean, remove the bin, pull out the filter by grasping both ends, and tap it against a rubbish bin to shake off debris.
    • Reinsert the filter with the ridged grips facing out.
    • The robot will not run if the filter is not installed correctly.
    • Do not wash the filter.
  • Cleaning the Front Castor Wheel:
    • The front castor wheel should be cleaned every two weeks (every 12 months for replacement).
    • Pull firmly on the front wheel to remove it.
    • Remove any debris from inside the wheel cavity.
    • Reinstall all parts, ensuring the wheel clicks back into place.
    • A clogged front wheel can damage floors, so contact Customer Care if it's not spinning freely after cleaning.
  • Cleaning the Edge-Sweeping Brush:
    • The edge-sweeping brush should be cleaned every month (twice a month if you have a pet) and replaced every 12 months.
    • Use a coin or small screwdriver to remove the screw holding the brush.
    • Remove the brush, clean the brush and the brush post, then reinstall it.
  • Cleaning the Multi-Surface Brushes:
    • The multi-surface brushes should be cleaned every month (twice a month if you have a pet) and replaced every 12 months.
    • Pinch the brush frame release tab, lift the tab, and remove any obstructions.
    • Remove the brushes from the robot, remove the brush caps, and clear any hair or debris from beneath the caps. Reinstall the brush caps.
    • Remove any hair or debris from the square and hexagonal pegs on the opposite side of the brushes.
    • Remove the bin and clear any debris from the vacuum path.
    • Reinstall the brushes, matching the shape of the brush pegs with the brush icons in the cleaning head module.
  • Cleaning Sensors and Charging Contacts:
    • The sensors and charging contacts should be cleaned once a month.
    • Wipe them with a clean, dry cloth.
    • Do not spray cleaning solution or water directly onto the sensors or sensor openings.
  • Battery Storage: For long-term storage, always charge and remove the battery from the robot and accessories. The battery should only be used with iRobot products at room temperature (50-104°F / 10-40°C).
  • Replacement Parts: iRobot manufactures various replacement parts and assemblies. Contact iRobot Customer Care or an authorized iRobot dealer for replacement parts. Replacement frequency may vary based on visible wear.
