Specifications

Overview

The Islandaire 6041228 is a programmable wired thermostat designed for various HVAC systems. It offers flexible programming options, including 7-day, 5-1-1 day, or non-programmable modes, making it suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications.

Function Description:

The thermostat's primary function is to control heating and cooling systems to maintain a desired room temperature. It features a clear LCD display that shows the current room temperature, day of the week, time, and the user-selectable setpoint temperature. System operation indicators (On) appear when Cool or Heat mode is selected.

The device includes several key controls:

  • LCD: Displays all relevant information.
  • Fan Switch: Allows users to select between AUTO, LOW, or HIGH fan speeds. In AUTO mode, the fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is active. LOW or HIGH settings enable continuous fan operation at the selected speed.
  • System Switch: Selects the HVAC system's operation mode: HEAT (turns on heat mode), COOL (turns on cool mode), or OFF (turns both heating and cooling off).
  • Setpoint Buttons (+/-): Used to adjust the desired room temperature.
  • Menu Button: Accesses the thermostat's program schedule for creation or modification.

The thermostat is compatible with a variety of systems, including:

  • Gas or Oil Heat
  • Electric Furnace
  • Heat Pump (with or without electric auxiliary heat)
  • Heat Only Systems (Floor or Wall Furnace)
  • Cool Only Systems
  • Conventional Single-Stage Furnace
  • Geothermal
  • Systems with High and Low Fan Speed
  • Remote Temperature Sensor compatibility

It is not compatible with Heat Pump (With Gas Aux.), Multi-Stage Systems, or Millivolt systems.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Type: Hardwire (Common Wire) or Hardwire (Common Wire) with Battery Backup. It operates on 18 to 30 VAC, NEC Class II, 50/60 Hz for hardware, and uses 2 AAA Alkaline batteries for backup. Battery installation is optional if hardwired but enables the thermostat to retain programs during power outages.
  • Temperature Display Range: 32 °F to 99 °F (0 °C to 37 °C).
  • Temperature Control Range: 44 °F to 90 °F (7 °C to 32 °C).
  • Load Rating: 1A per terminal, with a maximum of 1.5A for all terminals combined.
  • Swing (Cycle Rate or Differential):
    • Heating is adjustable from 0.2° to 2.0°.
    • Cooling is adjustable from 0.2° to 2.0°.
  • Remote Temperature Sensor (Optional): 10Kohm, ±1%. Uses S1 and S2 screw terminals for connection (Islandaire part no. 6040912).
  • Operating (Ambient) Temperature: 32 °F to +105 °F (0 °C to 41 °C).
  • Operating (Humidity): 90% non-condensing (maximum).
  • Dimensions (Thermostat): 4.72"W x 3.86"H x 1.10"D (120 x 98 x 28 mm).
  • Wiring: Uses shielded or non-shielded 18-22 gauge thermostat wire. All control system components and thermostat installation must conform to Class II circuits per the NEC Code.

Usage Features:

  • Programmable Options:
    • 7-day program: Each day of the week can be programmed individually.
    • 5+1+1 day program: All weekdays share the same program, with separate programs for Saturday and Sunday.
    • Non-programmable: Manual temperature control.
  • Time Periods: For programmable options, there are four time periods: Wake, Leave, Return, and Sleep.
  • Temporary Hold: Allows the user to temporarily set a new temperature for four hours, after which the thermostat reverts to the programmed schedule.
  • Permanent Hold: Allows the user to set a temperature that the thermostat will maintain indefinitely until manually changed or the hold is canceled.
  • Room Temperature Calibration: Allows adjustment of the displayed room temperature by up to 3° above or below the factory calibrated reading.
  • Minimum Compressor On Time: Configurable to OFF, 3, 4, or 5 minutes, ensuring the compressor runs for a minimum duration once activated.
  • Compressor Short Cycle Delay: When ON, prevents the compressor from turning on for 5 minutes after it was last turned off, protecting the compressor.
  • Heat Pump Configuration: The thermostat can be configured for heat pump systems, where Y is the first stage of heat and cool, and W is the second stage of heat.
  • Electric/Gas Fan Operation: Allows configuration for systems that control the fan during a call for heat (GAS position) or systems where the thermostat controls the fan (ELEC position, common for PTAC systems).
  • 12 or 24 Hour Clock: User-selectable time format.
  • Fahrenheit or Celsius: User-selectable temperature unit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Low Battery Indicator: An icon appears on the display when batteries need replacement, ensuring continuous operation and program retention.
  • Filter Change Reminder: This feature flashes a "Filter" reminder after a set number of fan runtime hours (adjustable from OFF to 2000 hours in 50-hour increments), prompting the user to change the air filter. The reminder can be reset by holding down the second key from the top for five seconds after changing the filter.
  • Easy Installation: The subbase allows for both horizontal and vertical mounting. The thermostat snaps onto the subbase easily.

Installation Tips:

  • Wall Location: Install 4 to 5 feet above the floor in an area with average temperature and good air circulation. Avoid locations near hot/cold air ducts, direct sunlight, outside walls, areas without conditioning, dead spots/drafts, or areas with concealed chimneys/pipes.
  • Electrical Hazard: Always disconnect power before installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.
  • Mercury Notice: The product is mercury-free. If replacing an old thermostat containing mercury, dispose of it properly according to local waste management authority instructions.
  • PTAC Systems: When connecting to a PTAC, refer to the PTAC unit's instructions for remote thermostat operation. For single-speed fan PTAC systems or conventional single-speed fan systems, both GL and GH wires should be tied to the Fan Wire (green).
