Overview

The JBL Series Loudspeakers, including models JBL2500, JBL2600, JBL2800, JBL3800, and JBL4800, are designed to provide highly accurate, uncolored, and balanced sound, enhancing the enjoyment of recorded music. These speakers are built with careful attention to detail, utilizing high-quality materials to ensure excellent performance over many years. The JBL Series combines traditional JBL performance values with an elegant contemporary appearance, making them suitable for various home audio setups.

Function Description:

The JBL Series loudspeakers are designed for stereo reproduction, delivering clear, crisp, and quality sound. They are engineered to produce high output levels, allowing modest amplifiers or receivers to achieve acoustical levels typically associated with more powerful amplifiers. A key feature is their accurate time/phase response, which ensures precise "turn-on, turn-off" characteristics similar to JBL's larger home and studio loudspeaker systems. This precision is crucial for accurately reproducing the high-frequency detail found in modern digital recordings. Furthermore, the in-line component arrays on the baffle contribute to accurate stereo imaging, providing an optimal listening experience for both on-axis and off-axis listeners.

Usage Features:

Placement:

For optimal stereo reproduction, the two loudspeaker systems should be placed an equal distance from the listening position. The angle between the speakers, at the listening position, should be between 40 and 60 degrees. For instance, if your listening position is 8 to 12 feet (2.5 to 4.5 m) from each speaker, the systems should be approximately 8 feet (2.5 m) apart. Placing loudspeakers in corners or against a wall can enhance bass response, though it may not always yield the most accurate bass. Compact systems benefit from placement on stands or shelves. For the best stereo imaging, it is recommended that the high-frequency transducers be as close as possible to the ear level of a seated listener. Users are encouraged to experiment with placement to suit their room acoustics and personal preferences.

Connections:

To connect the loudspeakers to a receiver or amplifier, use two-conductor insulated wire. JBL recommends #18 AWG (1 mm diameter) wire as a minimum size, or larger diameter wire if speakers are more than 30 feet (10 m) from the amplifier. Connections are made at the terminals on the back of the loudspeaker, near the bottom edge. The terminals accept bare wire or banana plugs. To prepare the wire, strip approximately 1/2-inch (13 mm) of insulation, twist the fine strands of each conductor together, and then insert the wire through the hole after pushing down on the terminal button. For each channel, the red terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the red or (+) loudspeaker connection terminal on the receiver or amplifier. Similarly, the black terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the black or (-) loudspeaker connection terminal on the receiver or amplifier. This ensures that the loudspeakers are in phase, working together rather than in opposition. Connecting them out of phase will not cause damage but will result in less bass and poor imaging. Most two-conductor wire is color-coded or has a ridge on one of its insulating jackets for easy identification.

Maintenance Features:

General Care:

The grille is held in place by pins near the edges. To remove it, grasp both top and bottom edges and pull gently. To replace, reposition it carefully and press gently at the corners, avoiding pushing on the center area of the grille. The loudspeaker enclosure can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. The grille may be gently vacuumed, and stains can be removed using an aerosol cleaner, following the manufacturer's instructions. It is important never to use any solvents to clean any part of the system.

Service:

Should the loudspeaker require service, it should be returned to the JBL dealer from whom it was purchased. If returning to the dealer is impractical, users should write directly to the JBL Customer Service Department, providing a full description of the problem. Products should not be returned to the JBL factory without prior authorization.
