Overview

This document provides installation and operational instructions for a JEGS 2 Ton (4,000 lbs.) Hydraulic Jack with 2 Ton (4,000 lbs.) Jack Stands, model number 79002. It emphasizes safety, proper usage, and maintenance for both the hydraulic jack and the jack stands.

Hydraulic Jack Description

Function: The hydraulic jack is a lifting device designed to raise vehicles or other heavy loads. It is specifically rated for a maximum capacity of 2 tons (4,000 lbs.). It is crucial to note that the jack is a lifting device only and must not be used as a jack stand to hold loads for prolonged periods of time. Once a load is lifted, it must be immediately supported by appropriate means, such as jack stands.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Capacity: 2 Ton (4,000 lbs.)
  • Lift Range: 5-1/8" to 13"
  • Hydraulic Unit Assembly: The core mechanism responsible for lifting and lowering.
  • Components: The jack consists of numerous parts, including a lifting arm, handle, portable handle, cross head pin, spindle, radius link, anchor bolt, steel ball bearings, caster wheels, and a hydraulic unit assembly with components like a ram, cylinder, piston, and various seals and valves.

Usage Features:

  • Lifting Operation:
    • To lift, turn the release valve clockwise to the closed position (do not overtighten).
    • Position the jack under the prescribed lift point as specified in the vehicle owner's manual.
    • Ensure the vehicle and jack are on a hard, level surface.
    • Pump the handle up and down to begin lifting.
    • Always use jack stands in pairs to support loads at recommended locations.
    • To lower onto jack stands, turn the release valve slowly counterclockwise.
  • Lowering Operation (from jack stands):
    • Turn the release valve clockwise to the closed position (do not overtighten).
    • Pump the handle up and down to lift the vehicle off the jack stands.
    • Remove the jack stands.
    • Turn the release valve slowly counterclockwise to lower the vehicle to the ground.
    • Crucially, never get under or let anyone under the vehicle while lowering.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not exceed rated capacity. Overloading can cause damage or failure.
    • Always use on a hard, level surface; avoid slopes or angles.
    • Center the load on the jack saddle to prevent loss of load or damage.
    • Never work directly under a supported load without proper support.
    • Do not move or dolly the vehicle while on the jack.
    • Place wheel chocks under vehicle wheels to prevent rolling.
    • Use in dry, well-lit areas.
    • Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.
    • No modifications or alterations shall be made to the product.
    • Only attachments and/or adaptors supplied by the manufacturer shall be used.

Maintenance Features:

  • Visual Inspection (Prior to Each Use): Check for cracks, cracked welds, and missing or damaged parts. Any damaged or abnormally operating jack SHALL BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE IMMEDIATELY UNTIL REPAIRED.
  • Lubrication: Keep all moving parts clean and well lubricated.
  • Annual Inspection: An annual inspection by a manufacturer or supplier's authorized repair facility is recommended. Defective parts, decals, or safety labels should be replaced.
  • Oil Check and Refill:
    • Use hydraulic jack oil only; do not use brake, transmission, or regular motor oils.
    • To check/refill, fully retract the ram by turning the release valve counterclockwise.
    • Remove the oil fill plug with the jack in a level position and handle socket down.
    • The oil level should be at the bottom of the fill hole. Top off with new, clean hydraulic jack oil if needed; do not overfill.
    • Replace the oil fill plug and check operation.
  • Air Purge Procedure:
    • Air can enter the hydraulic system during shipment or after refilling, causing poor lift performance.
    • To purge: fully open the release valve (counterclockwise), pump the handle rapidly several times, close the release valve (clockwise), pump the handle until the lift arm reaches maximum height and continue pumping several times, then lower the lift arm to the lowest position (one full turn counterclockwise, using force on the saddle if necessary).
    • Carefully and slowly pinch the oil fill plug to release trapped air.
    • Close the release valve and check for proper pump action. Repeat if necessary.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like "Saddle won't rise," "Lifts only half way," "Lifts, then lowers out of control," and "Erratic lift," along with possible causes and remedies (e.g., tightening release valve, filling oil, cleaning valves, replacing packing).

Jack Stands Description

Function: The jack stands are designed to provide partial support for vehicles or loads after they have been lifted by a jack. They are rated for a maximum capacity of 2 tons (4,000 lbs.).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Capacity: 2 Ton (4,000 lbs.)
  • Lift Range: 10-3/8" to 16-1/4"
  • Construction: Features a ratchet locking mechanism for height control, fully welded joints, solid steel locking handle, and a unitized frame. ANSI approved.
  • Components: Consists of a saddle (ratchet stem), collar, ratchet mechanism, and base.

Usage Features:

  • Placement and Adjustment:
    • Place the jack stand on a hard, level surface.
    • Adjust the height by pulling up on the ratchet.
    • Place the load on the center of the saddle.
    • Fix the ratchet by turning the stopper to securely hold the load.
    • To store, release the stopper and let the ratchet glide down to the lowest position.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not exceed rated capacity. Overloading can cause damage or failure.
    • Use only on a hard, level surface capable of sustaining the load.
    • Center the load on the saddle.
    • Never use a stand individually; always use in pairs.
    • Both stands must be set at the same height with the ratchet lock fully engaged.
    • Ensure the load and stands are stable to prevent loss of load.
    • Support only on areas of the vehicle specified by the vehicle manufacturer's manual.
    • Adequately support the vehicle before starting repairs.
    • Secure the emergency/parking brake whenever possible.
    • Stands are not to be used to simultaneously support both ends or one side of a vehicle; use as a matched pair to support one end only.
    • Make sure the load is stable before going under the vehicle; do not rock or jack the load.
    • Do not crawl under the vehicle during placement of stands.
    • Always chock the tires that remain on the surface.
    • Keep children and bystanders away from the lift area.

Any damaged stand or one subjected to an abnormal load or shock SHALL BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE IMMEDIATELY UNTIL REPAIRED.
  • Lubrication: Keep all moving parts clean and well lubricated.
  • Annual Inspection: An annual inspection by a manufacturer or supplier's authorized repair facility is recommended. Defective parts, decals, or safety labels should be replaced.
  • Return Policy: Jack stands are to be returned to the manufacturer per the stated Return Policy for authorized repair facilities.

This comprehensive manual ensures users are well-informed about the safe and effective operation and maintenance of their JEGS 2 Ton Hydraulic Jack and Jack Stands.
