The Johnson Rotary Laser Level Kit, Model No. 40-0917, is a versatile instrument designed for plotting distant points or establishing a continuous horizontal line. This device is suitable for both indoor and outdoor measuring applications and can be used with or without its included tripod.
The rotary laser level utilizes a laser beam to project a visible line or point. It incorporates a built-in rotary unit with a speed control knob, allowing the user to adjust the rotation speed to create a single laser point, an intermittent line, or a continuous line. The level features three (3) leveling vials and three (3) leveling screws for precise adjustment. Its adjusting base is designed for both tripod- and wall-mounting, offering flexibility in setup. The included lightweight, yet sturdy tripod allows the laser beam to be set to the required height for various tasks such as installing drop ceilings and mouldings.
The kit includes the rotary level, a built-in adjusting base and brackets, a telescoping tripod, tinted goggles, and 4 x AA batteries. To operate, users first install four (4) AA batteries by unscrewing the cover on the back top of the unit. The device is turned on by rotating the on/off switch, which also controls the rotation speed. For accurate measurements, the tripod should be opened and positioned firmly on a level surface. For uneven surfaces or inclines, the telescoping legs of the tripod can be adjusted. The unit is then screwed tightly onto the tripod. Leveling is achieved by using the three (3) adjusting screws and ensuring the bubble in each of the three (3) built-in vials is perfectly centered. The speed control knob allows the user to select between a single laser point, an intermittent line, or a continuous line, depending on the application.
The laser level does not contain any serviceable parts, and opening the housing will void the warranty. If the laser level has not been used for longer than three months, it is recommended to remove the batteries to prevent damage from leakage. Used or discharged batteries are considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of properly.
