Overview

This document describes the Jonsered LT2223CMA2 lawn tractor, providing instructions for its assembly, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Jonsered LT2223CMA2 is a lawn tractor designed for mowing grass. It can be configured for mulching, rear discharging, or bagging, depending on the accessories installed. The tractor is equipped with a safety system that prevents the engine from starting or operating under unsafe conditions, such as when the operator leaves the seat with the engine running or when the attachment clutch is engaged. It also features a Reverse Operation System (ROS) that allows the mower deck or other powered attachments to operate while in reverse, though this is strongly discouraged for mowing.

The tractor's controls include a light switch, throttle control, brake and clutch pedal, motion control lever, connection/disconnection control for the cutting unit, quick lifting/lowering of the cutting unit, ignition lock, parking brake, freewheel control lever, cutting height setting, choke control, and an ammeter/hourmeter. An electric dump switch is available for models equipped with an electric dump system.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Engine: The engine's rotational speed is regulated by the throttle control.
  • Cutting Unit: The cutting height is adjustable via a wheel. The front edge of the cutting unit should be approximately 10 mm (0.375") lower than the back edge for best cutting results.
  • Blades: The blades are available in 5-star and 6-star patterns, with right-hand and left-hand threaded bolts, respectively. They should be kept sharp and balanced for optimal cutting.
  • Tires: Proper air pressure in all four tires is essential for correct cutting unit adjustment.
  • Brake System: The brake system should allow the tractor to stop within five feet from its highest speed in highest gear on a level, dry concrete or paved surface.
  • Transaxle: The transaxle is factory-sealed and does not require fluid maintenance unless leaks or servicing are needed.
  • Bagger Capacity: The maximum load for the bagger is 60 Lb (27.2 Kg) of grass.
  • Sound Power Level: LWA 100 dB.
  • Vibration: Vibration levels are specified for both the operator's body (A(8) = 0.5 m/s²) and hands (A(8) = 2.5 m/s²).

Usage Features

  • Starting: Before starting, ensure the brake pedal is fully depressed and the attachment clutch control is disengaged. The choke control should be pulled out when the engine is cold and pushed in once the engine starts and runs smoothly.
  • Driving: Lower the cutting unit, slowly release the brake/clutch pedal, engage the cutting unit, and set the motion control lever to the desired driving speed.
  • Motion Control: The motion control lever has four positions: Neutral (N), Slow (S), Fast (F), and Reverse (R). The lever can be moved steplessly between S and F for precise speed adjustment.
  • Parking Brake: To engage, press the brake pedal to the bottom, move the parking brake lever upwards, and release the brake pedal. To release, simply push the brake pedal.
  • Freewheel Control: To tow or move the tractor without engine power, pull out and lock the freewheel control knob.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height is adjusted using a wheel. Turning it clockwise increases the height. Pulling the lifting/lowering lever backward simultaneously makes the wheel easier to turn.
  • Reverse Operation System (ROS): This system allows attachment operation in reverse. To activate, move the motion control lever to neutral, turn the ignition key counterclockwise to ROS "ON," look down and behind, and then slowly move the motion control lever to reverse. It is crucial to return the ignition key to engine "ON" when ROS is no longer needed. Mowing in reverse is strongly discouraged.
  • Washing: The tractor's deck is equipped with a washout port for cleaning after each use. Connect a garden hose to the adapter, ensure the discharge chute is directed away from obstacles, and run the engine with the cutting unit engaged until clean.
  • Safety Rules: Always read the instructions carefully. Do not allow children or untrained individuals to operate the tractor. Avoid mowing near people, children, or animals. Be aware of the risk of overturning on slopes exceeding 15 degrees. Never stop or start on sloping terrain.

Maintenance Features

  • Service Record: A service record is provided to track regular maintenance tasks, including oil changes, lubrication, brake checks, air filter cleaning/replacement, spark plug replacement, fuel filter replacement, and battery maintenance.
  • Service Reminder/Hour Meter: The ammeter/hourmeter displays total engine operating hours and flashes to indicate when service is due. The reminder flashes for two hours when service is required.
  • Engine Oil: Change engine oil regularly, with or without an oil filter, as specified in the service record.
  • Blades: Sharpen blades with a file or grinding disc, ensuring both sides are sharpened equally to avoid imbalance. Replace bent or damaged blades immediately.
  • Transaxle Cooling: Keep the fan and cooling fins of the transmission clean to ensure proper cooling. Do not clean while the engine is running or hot.
  • Brake Maintenance: If the tractor requires more than five feet to stop at highest speed, the brake system needs servicing.
  • Storage: At the end of the mowing season, clean the entire machine, touch up paint, change engine oil, drain the fuel tank, remove and store the spark plug (after adding a tablespoon of oil to the cylinder), and remove and recharge the battery. Store the machine indoors in a dry, dust-free place.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated section helps diagnose common issues such as engine not starting, uneven running, weakness, overheating, battery not charging, lighting malfunction, vibrations, and uneven cutting results.
