SYSTEM SETUP
SPDIF output:
When you have an external audio system (e.g. a Home Theater
System) that can accept digital audio signals via a coaxial or
optical cable, SPDIF should be turned on (see below). Doing
so enables the digital signals that leave the JD-VD502 to be
processed by Dolby and DTS Home Theater systems, among
many other devices that have internal decoders capable of
RAW decoding.
Select SPDIF/RAW when you have a receiver that can decode
the digital signal internally. SPDIF is the preferred option in
most cases. If you don't hear any output, then switch to
SPDIF/PCM.
Select SPDIF/PCM when the unit is connected to a 2-channel
digital stereo amplifier, or equivalent device, which does NOT
have the ability to decode the signal.
Select SPDIF/OFF if you do not have a receiver capable of
processing digital audio.
