Function Description

The KM312A is a smart digital multimeter capable of testing DC voltage, AC voltage, resistance, continuity, and frequency. It also features non-contact voltage (NCV) detection and live wire detection. The device defaults to a SMART (AUTO) mode, which automatically selects the appropriate measurement range for optimal resolution. Users can also switch to a manual mode to select specific measurement functions.

Usage Features

The multimeter is designed for ease of use with several key features:

Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds.
Backlight: Press the backlight button to turn the display backlight on/off.
Flashlight: Press and hold the backlight button for about 2 seconds to turn the flashlight on/off.
Data Hold: Press the 'H' button to enable/disable data holding. Note that this function is invalid in NCV/Live test modes.
SMART (AUTO) Mode: The meter powers on in SMART mode by default, indicated by 'AUTO' on the screen. In this mode, it automatically detects and measures DC voltage, AC voltage, resistance, and continuity, selecting the best resolution. The minimum measurable voltage in SMART mode is 0.8V.
Manual Mode: Press the 'FUNC' button to switch to manual mode. Subsequent presses will cycle through different measurement modes (DC voltage, AC voltage, resistance, continuity, frequency, NCV, Live). Press and hold 'FUNC' for about 2 seconds to return to SMART mode.
Non-contact Voltage (NCV) Detection: In NCV mode, place the NCV probe closer to the point to be tested. A weak signal will trigger a slow beep and a green indicator light, displaying '---L'. A strong signal will trigger a fast beep and a red indicator light, displaying '---H'.
Live Wire Detection: In Live mode, insert the red probe into the 'INPUT' jack and remove the black probe. Touch the object under test with the test lead point. When the indicator light illuminates, it signifies the measured position for the fire line. Users should exercise caution.
Auto Power Off: The meter has an auto power-off feature that activates after about 15 minutes of no operation, indicated by a specific symbol on the display. To cancel this feature, press and hold both 'FUNC' and the power button simultaneously when turning on the meter.

Safety Information: The meter conforms to IEC61010-1 CAT.III 600V over voltage safety standard and pollution level 2. Users are warned to read all safety information, not alter the product, comply with safety codes, and use personal protective equipment. Important safety precautions include:

Avoiding shock and arc blast injury by not exposing hazardous live conductors.
Limiting operation to specified measurement category, voltage, or amperage ratings.
Using product-approved accessories (probes, test leads, adapters).
Not touching voltages >30 V ac RMS, 42 V ac peak, or 60 V dc.
Using correct terminals, function, and range for measurements.
Not using the product around explosive gas, vapor, or in damp or wet environments.
Not operating the product with covers removed or the case open.
Examining the case for cracks or missing plastic and checking insulation around terminals.
Disconnecting power and discharging high-voltage capacitors before measuring resistance, continuity, capacitance, or diode junction.
Not applying more than the rated voltage between terminals or between each terminal and earth ground.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Turn off the meter and remove test leads. Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid dirt or moisture in the terminals, as this can affect readings.
Battery Installation:
1. Remove test leads before opening the case or battery door.
2. Remove the screw and open the battery door.
3. Install 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries, paying attention to polarity.
4. Insert into the battery door, then install and tighten the battery door screw.
