Overview

This document describes the Kazé SEP120 and SEP120L2 Ventilation Fans, designed for general ventilating use in ceilings. These models are not intended for use in kitchens or for exhausting hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.

Function Description

The Kazé SEP120 and SEP120L2 are ventilation fans designed to exhaust air to the outdoors, preventing backdrafting and ensuring proper air circulation. The SEP120L2 model includes additional lighting features, offering a fan, light, and night light that can be operated separately using a 3-function wall control. These units are suitable for use over a tub or shower when connected to a GFCI-protected branch circuit (ceiling installation only).

Important Technical Specifications

  • Voltage: 120 V AC.
  • Installation: Designed for ceiling installation only, up to a 12/12 pitch (45-degree angle). The duct connector must point upwards. Not suitable for wall mounting.
  • Ducting: Requires round ductwork vented to the outdoors. Short, straight duct runs are recommended for optimal performance, and smaller ducts than recommended should be avoided. Duct joints should be sealed with tape to ensure airtight connections. Insulation around ducts can help reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth.
  • Electrical Wiring: Installation and wiring must be performed by a qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes. The unit must be grounded.
  • Thermal Insulation: The fan must not be installed in a ceiling thermally insulated to a value greater than R40.
  • Speed Control: Not compatible with solid-state speed control devices.
  • Lighting (SEP120L2 only): Includes a light and a night light, operable separately from the fan.

Usage Features

  • General Ventilation: Primarily for general ventilating purposes, ensuring sufficient air exchange in the designated area.
  • Bathroom/Shower Use: Acceptable for use in bathrooms and over tubs or showers, provided it is connected to a GFCI-protected branch circuit.
  • Separate Operation (SEP120L2): The fan, light, and night light functions can be controlled independently with a 3-function wall control, offering versatility in use.
  • Quiet Operation: Designed for quiet and efficient operation. Users are advised to keep drywall spray and construction dust away from the power unit to prevent motor bearing damage and noisy or unbalanced impellers.
  • Installation Flexibility: Sliding hanger bars are provided, allowing the housing to be positioned accurately between framing members up to 24 inches apart. These bars are compatible with I-joist, standard joist, and truss construction.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: For quiet and efficient operation, long life, and attractive appearance, the grille should be lowered or removed, and the interior of the unit vacuumed using a dusting brush attachment.
  • Motor Lubrication: The motor is permanently lubricated and does not require oiling.
  • Part Replacement: If the motor bearings produce excessive or unusual noises, the motor and impeller should be replaced with exact service parts. A service parts list is provided, including components like the grille assembly, grille spring, wire panel, lens, blower, blower wheel, motor plate, motor, hanger bar kit, housing, wiring plate, and damper/duct connector, along with various screws and washers.
  • Safety Precaution for Maintenance: Before servicing or cleaning the unit, the power must be switched off at the service panel, and the disconnecting means locked to prevent accidental power-on. If locking is not possible, a prominent warning device (e.g., a tag) should be securely fastened to the service panel.

Warranty Information

The product comes with a 12-month warranty covering defects in workmanship or materials for mechanical and electrical parts from the date of purchase. The original sales receipt is required as proof of purchase. The manufacturer will repair or replace defective parts under normal household use.

The warranty does NOT cover:

  • Damages from improper installation, shipping, misuse, abuse, accident, alteration, or lack of proper care and maintenance.
  • Damages from service by unauthorized personnel.
  • Labor, service, transportation, and shipping charges for part removal and installation beyond the initial 12-month period.
  • Fluorescent lamp starters and tubes.

This limited warranty is exclusive and replaces all other warranties, expressed or implied, including those of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. The remedy provided is exclusive, and the warranty does not cover incidental or consequential damages. Specific legal rights may vary by state.
