Overview

This document is an instruction manual for Kenwood CD players, specifically models 1050CD, 104CD, and 103CD. It provides comprehensive information on the device's functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Kenwood CD players are designed to play compact discs (CDs), including CDV (audio part only) and CD-G (audio part only). A key feature is the multi-disc changer mechanism, allowing for the loading of up to five discs. This mechanism enables disc changes even during playback, enhancing user convenience.

The units offer various playback modes:

  • Programmed Play (PGM mode): Users can program desired tracks in a specific order, with a maximum of 32 selections. This mode also includes an "Auto-Space" function that inserts several seconds of space between programmed tracks, useful for recording to cassette tapes.
  • Repeated Play: Tracks can be played repeatedly, either for a single disc or all tracks across all loaded discs. Programmed tracks can also be repeated.
  • Random Play: The device can select and play tracks randomly from all loaded discs.
  • Editing (EDIT): This function is particularly useful for recording CD contents onto cassette tapes.
    • Normal EDIT: Edits and records tracks from a single disc, optimizing track order to fit tape sides A and B without interruption. Users can input the tape recording time (e.g., 46, 54, 60, 90 minutes) and adjust the interval length in one-minute units.
    • MULTI EDIT: Allows editing and recording of tracks from several CDs onto a single tape. It confirms remaining time on tape sides A and B during the process.

The CD players also support Timer Operation when connected to a commercially available audio timer, allowing playback to start at a desired time.

System Control Operations:

When connected to other Kenwood audio components with system control terminals (XS8 or SL16 modes), the CD player offers enhanced functionality:

  • Remote Control: The unit can be operated using a system remote supplied with a connected amplifier or receiver.
  • Automatic Operation (except XR equipment): Automatically switches the input selector on the amplifier or receiver when playback starts from the CD player.
  • Synchronized Recording (except XR equipment): Synchronizes recording with the start of CD playback, facilitating easy recording to cassette decks, including a "simple CCRS operation" for quality recordings.
