Overview

The provided document is a "Vehicle Feature Tips" guide for the 2024 Kia Forte, detailing various functionalities and systems within the car. It's not a single device manual but rather a compilation of tips for using multiple integrated vehicle features.

Voice Recognition and Bluetooth®

This system allows for hands-free control of certain vehicle functions, primarily phone calls, through voice commands.

  • Function Description: Enables users to make calls and interact with the infotainment system using spoken commands, reducing driver distraction. It integrates with the user's smartphone via Bluetooth.
  • Usage Features:
    • Contact Optimization: Recommends using full names (first and last) for contacts, avoiding short names, special characters, emojis, hyphens, acronyms, and all-caps words to improve recognition accuracy.
    • Command Protocol: Users must wait for a beep before speaking commands.
    • Speaking Style: Requires a natural, moderate tone with clear pronunciation.
    • Environmental Factors: Notes that open windows, sunroof, weather (wind/rain), or high A/C fan speeds can interfere with accuracy.
    • Accent/Name Recognition: May have difficulty understanding some accents or uncommon names.
    • Help Function: Users can say "Help" to get a list of available commands.
    • Pairing: Initiated via "Device Connections" on the infotainment display or the "Call" button on the steering wheel. Requires accepting phonebook download and auto-connection requests on the phone.
    • Troubleshooting: Suggestions include rebooting the phone, updating its operating system, deleting and re-pairing the device, and ensuring Bluetooth is activated on the phone.
    • Contact Download Issues: Advises checking contact entry correctness, supported categories (HOME, MOBILE, WORK, iPhone®), and ensuring only the "phone contact list" is selected for download. Notes that exceeding the maximum contact limit will result in partial downloads.
    • Compatibility: Acknowledges varying compatibility levels due to frequent phone OS changes.
  • Technical Specifications: Bluetooth® reception is affected by carrier coverage and phone dependency. For streaming audio, the device's listening volume should be turned up.

Accessory Mode with a Smart Key

This feature allows the use of electronic accessories without starting the vehicle.

  • Function Description: Provides power to the vehicle's electronic accessories when the engine is off.
  • Usage Features:
    • Activation: With the Smart Key fob inside the vehicle, push the Engine Start/Stop button once without pressing the brake pedal. The ACC indicator will illuminate AMBER.
    • Auto-Off: The system automatically turns off after 1 hour in ACC position to prevent battery discharge.

Smart Trunk

This system provides automatic trunk opening when the Smart Key is detected nearby.

  • Function Description: Automatically opens the trunk when the Smart Key fob is within close proximity to the rear of the vehicle.
  • Usage Features:
    • Alert System: Hazard warning lights blink and a chime sounds for about 3 seconds, followed by two additional blinks and chimes before opening.
    • Default State: The Smart Trunk feature is OFF by default and must be enabled via User Settings in the Instrument Cluster.
    • Manual Opening: Can be opened by pressing and holding the trunk button on the fob or using the release button under the rear view camera.
    • Security Reminder: If the unlock button on the Smart Key was pressed (which does not open the trunk), remember to press the lock button before walking away.
    • Deactivation: The function can be deactivated by pressing any Smart Key button during the Detect and Alert stage.

Smart Key Interference

This section warns about potential issues with the Smart Key's radio frequency.

  • Function Description: Addresses communication errors that can occur due to radio frequency interference with the Smart Key.
  • Usage Features:
    • Interference Sources: Mobile phones placed in close proximity to the Smart Key, or a phone held very close to the door handle while the Smart Key is in a pocket/purse, can cause errors.
    • Recommendation: Avoid placing the Smart Key on top of or next to a phone in the same compartment while driving. If issues arise, check that the key fob is not near other radio frequency sources or another Smart Key.

Manual Climate Control

This system allows manual adjustment of the vehicle's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

  • Function Description: Provides control over cabin temperature, fan speed, and airflow direction.
  • Usage Features:
    • Defrost Windshield: Set fan speed to highest, temperature to highest, and mode selection knob to Defrost-Level setting.
    • Air Flow Modes: Selectable modes include Face-Level, Bi-Level, Floor-Level, Floor/Defrost-Level, and Defrost-Level.
    • Quick Tips:
      • Maintain glass cleanliness for optimal defrost performance and to prevent fogging.
      • "AUTO A/C" mode (MAX) automatically engages recirculated air for highest performance.
      • Defrost mode engages Fresh Air Vent for dehumidification and maximum defroster performance.
    • Reminder: Warm air may flow through vents if the Recirculated Air button is not pressed ON.
  • Maintenance Features: Maintaining the Climate Control Air Filter is crucial for system performance (refer to Owner's Manual for maintenance schedule).

Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go

This advanced driver-assistance system maintains a predetermined distance from vehicles ahead.

  • Function Description: Automatically adjusts driving speed to maintain a set distance from detected vehicles, including slowing down or stopping in traffic.
  • Usage Features:
    • Stop and Go: Can bring the vehicle to a complete stop and re-engage when traffic moves, unless stopped for more than 3 seconds, in which case manual re-engagement (accelerator pedal or [+] / [-] switch) is required.
    • Engagement: Press the Driving Assist button to turn ON and set to current speed. CRUISE indicator, set speed, and vehicle distance illuminate.
    • Speed Adjustment: Increase speed with [+] switch, decrease with [-] switch.
    • Pause/Resume: Press the pause/resume button; SCC indicator turns OFF.
    • Vehicle-to-Vehicle Distance: Press the Vehicle Distance button on the steering wheel; image on LCD screen changes when scrolling.
    • Turn OFF: Press the Driving Assist button.

      • Normal: Maximizes distance before initial warning.
      • Late: Reduces distance before initial warning.
      • Default is Normal; changing this may affect other Driver Assistance systems.
  • Maintenance Features: Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle exterior to maximize BCA.

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) / Lane Following Assist (LFA)

These systems help keep the vehicle within its lane.

  • Function Description:
    • LKA: Detects lane markings/road edges, warns if the vehicle leaves the lane without a turn signal, and can assist with steering to prevent departure.
    • LFA: Helps keep the vehicle centered in its lane by monitoring lane markings and vehicles ahead, providing steering inputs.
  • Usage Features:
    • Enable LKA: Via User Settings in Instrument Cluster, Mode button on steering wheel, or SETUP key/button on infotainment system > VEHICLE > Driver Assistance > Lane Safety.
    • Activation Indicator: Press and hold Lane Safety button. Icon illuminates WHITE when ON but no lane markers detected; turns GREEN when lane markers are detected and steering assist is active.
    • Volume/Priority: Adjust Warning Methods in Vehicle Settings (infotainment) or User Settings (Instrument Cluster) > Driver Assistance.
    • LFA Hands-Off Warning: If hands are off the steering wheel for several seconds, a warning message and audible alert appear; LFA cancels if hands are not replaced.
