Overview

This document is a user manual for KME autogas systems, specifically for cars equipped with gas injection systems such as NEVO-SKY, NEVO, and DIEGO. It provides practical advice, operational instructions for the control panel, and troubleshooting information.

Function Description

The KME autogas system allows a vehicle to run on LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) or CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) in addition to petrol. The core function is to manage the transition between fuels and monitor the gas system's operation.

Fuel Type Selection: The system primarily starts on petrol and automatically switches to gas when specific parameters are met, such as coolant/reducer temperature, engine speed (RPM), and a predefined delay time. Users can manually switch between petrol and gas by pressing a button on the control panel.

Gas Level Indication: The control panel features an LED indicator that displays the current gas level in the tank. The number of illuminated LEDs corresponds to the degree of tank filling. For the DG8 panel, the fill level is indicated by a single LED changing color.

Automatic Calibration of Gas Level Indicator: The system supports automatic calibration of the gas level indicator to ensure accurate readings. This process involves emptying the gas tank, initiating calibration via the control panel, and then completely refilling the tank. The calibration mode is signaled by alternating blinking of the gas level diodes.

Acoustic Signalization: In addition to visual cues on the control panel, the system uses acoustic signals to indicate various events:

  • A sound signal confirms each press of the fuel changing button.
  • A "beep" sound signals automatic return to petrol due to gas depletion or pressure decrease.
  • Three "beep" sounds upon engine start remind the driver if the system remained on petrol after a previous switch.
  • Ten short sounds at 0.5-second intervals indicate that the car has reached the distance for its last inspection.

Gas System Signaling (Error Detection): The Diego G3 / NEVO / NEVO-SKY systems include a self-monitoring function to detect malfunctions. Errors are stored in the controller and can be signaled on the control panel through alternating flashing of status LEDs (or color changes for DG8) and an acoustic signal. Gas level indicator diodes may also flash to show errors if configured. The most common error cause is an empty gas tank. Alarms can be canceled by pressing the mode change button or will silence automatically after about 5 seconds.

Gas Controller Sleep Mode (NEVO-SKY only): The gas controller enters sleep mode when the ignition is off or when connected to PC software for specific functions. This mode is indicated by the lighting of gas level LEDs, with the DG8 panel showing alternating white and blue colors.

Gas Controller Software Update Mode: The start of a firmware update is signaled by a short beep. The update progress is indicated by the sequential illumination of four gas level LEDs, or by color changes (red -> orange -> yellow -> green) for the DG8 panel.

Emergency Start on Gas: In case of petrol fuel system failure, the NEVO-SKY / NEVO / DIEGO G3 systems allow for an emergency start directly on gas. This procedure involves a specific sequence of ignition turns and button presses on the control panel. A long beep confirms the system is operating on gas.

Important Technical Specifications

  • System Compatibility: NEVO-SKY, NEVO, DIEGO G3.
  • Control Panels: DG8 Compact, DG7 RGB, DG5, DG4 (for NEVO-SKY and NEVO families), DIEGO G3 (for DIEGO family).
  • LED Indicators: Multiple LEDs for gas level, status, and backlight.
  • Sensors: Light level sensor for automatic panel brightness adjustment (available on DG8 Compact, DG7 RGB, DG5, DG4).
  • Error Codes: A comprehensive list of error codes (E001-E026) is provided, covering issues like injector malfunctions, sensor shorts/opens, valve circuit problems, empty tank, inefficient reducer heating, and petrol/gas injector merging.
  • Software Version: Specific features like automatic calibration and certain controller functionalities may depend on the NEVO-SKY/NEVO family software version (e.g., 4.0D, 4.0H).

Usage Features

  • Filling the Tank: Gas tank filling must be done at autogas stations. The system protects against overfilling with a characteristic sound.
  • Control Panel Operation:
    • Fuel Type Selection: Pressing button [B] switches between petrol and gas.
    • Working State Indication: Status LEDs [C] show the system's operational mode.
    • Gas Level Indication: LEDs [A] indicate the gas level.
  • Starting the Engine: The vehicle typically starts on petrol and automatically switches to gas when conditions (coolant/reducer temperature, RPM, delay time) are met.
  • Gas Depletion Warning: Gas depletion is signaled by an automatic switch to petrol (with signaling) or a significant power drop. Users are warned to avoid driving on petrol reserve and never completely empty the tank.
  • Additional Control Panel Messages (NEVO-SKY/NEVO only):
    • During the waiting period for switching to gas, gas level diodes can display either the time remaining until switchover (indicating engine warm-up status) or the current gas level in the tank.
    • For DG8, reaching the switching temperature is signaled by white flashing of the diode.
    • Setting the "Flashing color of the status" in DG8 causes the diode to flash blue.
  • Emergency Start on Gas: This feature allows starting the engine directly on gas in case of petrol system failure. It requires a specific sequence of ignition and button presses.
    • Conditions: Reducer/environment temperature must be above 0 °C.
    • Limitations: Frequent use (more than 50 times) will block the feature, requiring a workshop to unlock it. It may also be disabled if the 12V "after ignition" signal disappears during the procedure.
    • NEVO-SKY DIRECT: This function is not supported for NEVO-SKY DIRECT systems.

Maintenance Features

  • Troubleshooting: If the gas system does not switch to gas after refueling, users are advised to contact a workshop for diagnosis.
  • Error Codes: The manual provides a list of error codes that can help in diagnosing system malfunctions.
  • Software Updates: The system supports firmware updates, indicated by specific LED patterns on the control panel.
  • Emergency Start Precaution: After an emergency start on gas, it is crucial to wait until the engine temperature reaches approximately 50 °C to ensure sufficient reducer heating, preventing potential damage to gas system components or the engine.
  • Calibration: If the panel indicates an incorrect fuel level after calibration, the process should be repeated before the next refueling.
