Overview

The KOBOLD KSV is a flow meter designed for very low flow rates, operating on the suspended float principle. It is primarily used for measuring the flow of liquids or air.

Function Description:

The KSV flow meter measures flow by observing the position of a suspended float within a tapered tube. The direction of flow is from bottom to top, and the device requires a vertical installation position. The upper edge of the ball (float) indicates the flow rate. This device is designed as a simple and economical measuring system. An optional needle valve is available for economical flow control. The KSV is specifically designed for panel mounting applications.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The flow meter must be installed vertically with the flow direction from bottom to top. It is crucial to ensure the instrument is not under mechanical stress or tension; support bracing should be used if necessary. The measuring tube must be protected from external damage, and pressure peaks (e.g., from sudden surges or flow stoppage) should be avoided. After mechanical connections are made, it is recommended to check for proper sealing and absence of leakage. Detailed installation information for float flow meters is available in VDI/VDE guidelines 3513.
  • Operation: The indication point for the flow rate is the upper edge of the ball. The optional needle valve allows for flow control.
  • Safety: The device should only be used, maintained, and serviced by personnel familiar with these operating instructions and in accordance with local health and safety regulations. When integrated into machines, the measuring unit should only be used if the machines comply with EC-machine guidelines.
  • Over-range Warning: Exceeding the measuring range by more than 20% can lead to bearing damage and substantial measuring errors.
  • PED Compliance: In accordance with Article 4 Paragraph (3), "Sound Engineering Practice," of the PED 2014/68/EU, the device does not require a CE mark. It falls under Diagram 8, Pipe, Group 1 for dangerous fluids.
  • EU and UK Declarations of Conformance: The product conforms to DIN EN IEC 63000:2018 regarding the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products. It also complies with the 2011/65/EU (RoHS category 9) and 2015/863/EU (RoHS III) directives, as well as the UK S.I. 2012/3032 (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2012).

Maintenance Features:

  • Pre-Installation Inspection: Before putting the unit into operation, all transportation safety locks must be removed, and it must be ensured that no packing material remains within the unit.
  • Damage Inspection: Instruments are inspected before shipping. Upon receipt, a thorough inspection of the delivery packaging is recommended. Any visible damage should be immediately reported to the parcel service/forwarding agent, as they are responsible for transit damages.
  • Warranty: Any use of the flow meter that exceeds the manufacturer's specifications may invalidate its warranty. The user assumes all risk for such usage.
  • Documentation: The latest instruction manuals are available on the manufacturer's website (www.kobold.com). If a specific version corresponding to a purchased product is needed due to technical changes, it can be requested free of charge via email (info.de@kobold.com) by providing the invoice and serial number. Paper copies can also be sent for a postage fee.
