1 Introduction
The Koehler Water Separability Tester is the
latest design for performing the ASTM D1401
test method and related test specifications.
The ability of a lubricating oil to separate from
water and resist emulsification is an important
performance characteristic for applications
involving water contamination and turbulence.
Water Separability is determined by stirring
equal volumes of water and sample together at
a controlled temperature to form an emulsion
and observing the time required for separation of
the emulsion to occur. This method is suitable
for petroleum oils and synthetic fluids
This manual provides important information
regarding safety, technical reference, installation
requirements, operating condition specifications,
user facility resource requirements, and
operating instructions for the Water Separability
Instrument and Data Acquisition Software. This
manual should also be used in conjunction with
applicable published laboratory procedures.
