What to do if Kohler CH680 Engine starts but does not keep running?
    • A
      April BaileyAug 22, 2025
If your Kohler Engine starts but doesn't keep running, the issue might stem from several sources. A faulty carburetor could be the culprit, requiring repair or replacement. Similarly, a faulty cylinder head gasket should be replaced. Check the choke or throttle controls for any faults or misadjustments, and adjust or repair them as needed. Inspect the fuel pump for malfunctions, especially checking for clogged or leaking vacuum hoses, and repair or replace if necessary. An intake system leak needs to be repaired. Loose wires or connections that intermittently ground the ignition kill circuit should be secured. Replace the fuel with quality fuel if the current fuel is of poor quality. Finally, ensure the fuel tank cap vent isn't restricted; clear any restrictions.

Ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open. Inspect the spark plug lead(s) and reconnect them if disconnected. Also, verify the quality of the fuel and replace it if it's old, dirty, or mixed with water. Correct the battery connection if it's backward. Replace the blown fuse, if applicable. Other potential issues include a malfunctioning carburetor solenoid (repair or replace), a choke that isn't closing properly (ensure it closes), a clogged fuel line or fuel filter (clear or replace), a failed diode in the wiring harness (replace), a DSAI or DSAM malfunction (repair or replace), a faulty electronic control unit (replace), faulty ignition...
