Overview

The Kolibri Signature is a professional, two-pocket currency discriminator designed for efficient and accurate value counting and sorting. It features a reject pocket, ensuring continuous operation even when counterfeit bills, incorrect denominations, or improperly faced bills are detected. The device boasts a user-friendly interface and an intuitive control panel, making it accessible for various users. Its robust built-in counterfeit detection capabilities and multiple counting modes contribute to its high level of performance.

Function Description

The Kolibri Signature offers a variety of operating modes to suit different counting needs:

  • Mix Mode: This is the default mode upon powering up the machine. It allows for counting stacks of mixed denominations. The machine will count bills from the hopper to the stacker, displaying the total number of bills and their total value on the home screen once the hopper is empty. A detailed report can be accessed via the REPORT button.
  • Sort Mode: In this mode, the machine counts and sorts bills based on the denomination of the first bill scanned in a stack. Any subsequent bills that do not match this initial denomination are automatically rejected into the reject pocket. This is useful for verifying straps of single-denomination bills. The total count and value are displayed, and a detailed report is available.
  • DSort Mode (Design Sort Mode): This mode enables counting bills of a single denomination while sorting them by design. The design of the first bill scanned sets the target design for the stacker, with all other designs being sent to the reject pocket. Counterfeit detection and error note detection are active in this mode.
  • Count Mode: This simple mode counts the total number of bills without recognizing or recording their denominations. Counterfeit detection is not active in Count Mode.
  • Face Mode: This mode sorts bills based on their orientation (face up or face down). The orientation of the first bill in the hopper determines the target orientation for the stacker, rejecting bills with the opposite face. The total count and value are displayed, and a detailed report can be viewed.
  • Orientation Mode: Similar to Face Mode, this mode allows counting and sorting bills by one of four orientations. The first bill sets the target orientation, and non-conforming bills are rejected.
  • VBatch Mode (Value Batch Mode): This mode allows the user to input a specific value for a batch of mixed-denomination bills in a single currency. The Kolibri Signature will count bills into the stacker until the set value is reached. If the hopper runs out of bills before the value is met, it will count up to the closest possible value and display "BATCH INCOMPLETE."

Usage Features

  • Powering Up: Ensure the hopper and stacker are empty, connect the power cable, and turn on the power switch. The unit will perform a self-check and display "0" when ready.
  • Loading the Hopper: For optimal performance and to prevent jams, bills should be placed in a neat stack. Avoid counting wet, dirty, spoiled, folded, or curled bills, or those with foreign materials. Adjust the hopper bill guides to be slightly wider (0.10" on each side) than the bill stack for smooth feeding.
  • Auto & Manual Start Function: By default, the machine starts counting automatically (Auto function). Users can switch to Manual mode via the SETTINGS menu, requiring the START/STOP button to initiate each count.
  • Add Function: Activated by the ADD button, this function allows counting multiple stacks of bills while accumulating the total count and value. After counting a stack, empty the stacker and add the next stack to continue adding to the total.
  • Batch Function: Activated by the BATCH or +1/+10 button, this function sets a preset quantity of bills to count. By default, pressing BATCH sets the batch size to 100, which can be adjusted. The machine stops when the batch amount is reached, displaying "BATCH COMPLETE." If the hopper runs out of bills, "INCOMPLETE BATCH" is displayed.
  • Add + Batch Function: This combines the Add and Batch functions, allowing the user to batch desired quantities while monitoring a running total.
  • Auto-Currency Function: The machine automatically detects the currency of the first bill in the hopper and assumes it for the rest of the stack, rejecting non-conforming currencies.
  • Multi-Currency Function: This advanced feature allows the Kolibri Signature to detect and count up to four mixed currencies simultaneously. The total number and value for each currency are displayed, and a detailed report can be generated.
  • Report Function: Pressing the REPORT button provides an on-screen report of the total amount and value for each denomination counted, as well as a grand total.
  • Serial Number Report: Pressing the REPORT button twice displays a detailed report of each bill counted, including its serial number and denomination.
  • Print Function: The built-in thermal printer allows for printing detailed counting reports. Ensure thermal receipt paper is properly loaded.
  • Station ID Function: Users can label receipt titles with a custom ID through the SERVICE menu, using the keypad to input characters.
  • Reject Function: The REJECT button displays an on-screen report of rejected bills and the reason for their rejection (e.g., UV ERROR, MG ERROR, IR ERROR, DB ERROR, DD ERROR, ID ERROR, FACE, SORT, ORIENT).

Maintenance Features

Regular care and preventative maintenance are crucial for extending the lifetime of the Kolibri Signature and avoiding operational problems.

  • Cleaning:
    • Always turn off and disconnect the unit from its power cord before cleaning.
    • Do NOT use solvents such as thinner or alcohol.
    • Clean the back drawer, top cover, and CIS (Contact Image Sensor) frequently with the provided bristle brush or a dry cloth.
    • Clean sensors with the bristle brush or a dry cloth.
    • Rubber rollers can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, optionally with a small amount of liquid soap, ensuring no soap residue remains.
    • It is recommended to use an air duster and a soft bristle brush to remove dust and debris from the interior.
    • When not in use for extended periods, cover the unit with a dust cover (not included) to prevent dust accumulation.
  • Adjusting Feed Gap:
    • The feed gap, which is the height of the bill feed path, can loosen during transport or with normal wear, leading to DOUBLE, CHAIN, or HALF errors.
    • To adjust, ensure the machine is off.
    • Position the rollers so that only the black smooth sections are showing (no dark-colored rubber teeth).
    • Place a crisp, rigid bill lengthwise into the hopper, either on the right or left side.
    • Guide the bill between the inner rollers; you should feel moderate resistance when moving it back and forth.
    • Use the adjustment screw at the top of the unit:
      • If the bill feels too loose, tighten the feed gap by turning the screw counterclockwise (1 dot adjustment at a time).
      • If resistance is too strong, loosen the gap by turning the screw clockwise (1 dot adjustment at a time).
    • Test with a stack of bills after each adjustment.
  • Calibration Procedure:
    • The CIS, UV, and IR sensors are factory-calibrated, but sensitivity can decrease over time, causing ID errors.
    • To recalibrate, turn the machine ON.
    • Access the SERVICE menu, then select CALIBRATION.
    • Turn the machine to its backside, pull the top-back cover upwards.
    • Insert the provided laminated calibration card securely against the hopper rollers in the top back door opening.
    • Close the top back cover with the calibration card inside.
    • Turn the machine face side to yourself and press START/STOP to begin calibration.
    • The screen will display "CIS check wait." Upon completion, "CIS check ok" should appear. If "CIS check fail" appears, readjust the card and repeat.
    • Remove the calibration card, then turn the machine off and on to reset.
    • The same steps apply for UV + IR calibration.
