Overview

This document is a user manual for Kolin window-type air conditioners, specifically models KAM-75BMC and KAM-95BMC. It provides comprehensive information on safety precautions, unit identification, operating instructions, installation, troubleshooting, and specifications.

Function Description

The Kolin window-type air conditioner is designed to provide cooling and ventilation for indoor spaces. It operates by circulating air through a cooling coil, reducing the room temperature, and can also function in fan-only mode for air circulation. Some models include an auto-swing feature for horizontal airflow adjustment. The unit is intended for residential use and is not designed for specialized purposes such as preserving precision devices, food, pets, plants, or art objects.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual provides a table of unit dimensions (W x H x D) in millimeters, categorized by Btu/h ratings:

  • 5000-6000 Btu/h: 445x320x415 mm, 450x346x535 mm
  • 7000-9000 Btu/h: 450x346x535 mm, 450x346x585 mm
  • 9000-12000 Btu/h: 560x400x640 mm, 600x380x560 mm
  • 15000-16000 Btu/h: 660x434x620 mm
  • 15000-24000 Btu/h: 660x428x680 mm, 660x428x780 mm

The operating temperature ranges are specified for both cooling and heating operations:

  • Cooling Operation:
    • Outdoor temp: 18-43°C/64-109°F (18-52°C/64-125°F for special tropical models)
    • Indoor temp: 17-32°C/62-90°F
  • Heating Operation:
    • Outdoor temp: -5-24°C/23-76°F
    • Indoor temp: 0-27°C/32-80°F

Minimum nominal cross-sectional areas of conductors are provided based on rated current:

  • >3 and ≤6 A: 0.75 mm²
  • >6 and ≤10 A: 1 mm²
  • >10 and ≤16 A: 1.5 mm²
  • >16 and ≤25 A: 2.5 mm²

Suggested minimum AWG wire sizes are also listed:

  • 10 Amps: AWG 18
  • 13 Amps: AWG 16
  • 18 Amps: AWG 14
  • 25 Amps: AWG 12
  • 30 Amps: AWG 10

The unit is earthed through the power cord, and an individual circuit with a circuit breaker/fuse matching the power cord and wall outlet rating is required.

Usage Features

The air conditioner features a selector knob for operating modes and fan speeds, and a thermostat knob for temperature control.

Operating Modes:

  • Cool Mode: Offers "HIGH COOL" (maximum cooling and airflow), "MED COOL" (intermediate cooling and airflow), and "LOW COOL" (minimum cooling and airflow).
  • Fan Mode: Allows selection of "HIGH FAN," "MED FAN," and "LOW FAN" for air circulation without cooling.
  • OFF: Completely shuts off the unit.

Thermostat Control:

  • The thermostat sets the desired room temperature in COOL MODE. Rotating the knob clockwise increases cooling (lower room temperature), while counter-clockwise rotation decreases cooling (higher room temperature). A 3-minute delay is recommended when adjusting the thermostat from a higher to a colder setting to prevent fuse overload.

Airflow Adjustment:

  • Vertical Airflow (Manual): Adjustable by manipulating the horizontal louver blades.
  • Horizontal Airflow (Automatic - on some models): The "AUTO SWING" switch, when "ON," causes vertical louvers to oscillate left and right, distributing cold air. Turning it "OFF" stops the louvers at any desired position.

Vent Control:

  • The vent control, located above the control knobs, allows for either internal air circulation ("CLOSED" position for maximum cooling) or discharge of stale air ("OPEN" position for ventilation).

Safety Precautions:

  • The manual emphasizes not to operate or stop the unit by plugging/unplugging the power cord, not to damage the power cord, and to ensure proper earthing.
  • It warns against operating the unit with wet hands or in damp environments, and against directing airflow at room occupants for extended periods.
  • Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, can use the appliance with supervision and instruction. Children should not play with or clean the appliance without supervision.
  • The appliance should not be installed in wet rooms like bathrooms or laundry rooms.
  • In case of strange sounds, smell, or smoke, the unit must be unplugged immediately.
  • The power supply must be cut off during thunderstorms.
  • Do not use the fan with solid-state speed control devices.
  • Avoid running the cord under carpeting or furniture.
  • A 3-minute delay is recommended before restarting the unit after shutdown to prevent voltage fluctuation.

Maintenance Features

Air Filter:

  • The air filter, located behind the inlet grille, should be checked and cleaned at least once every two weeks.
  • Removal: Hold the slot under the front panel, uplift it outwards to remove the panel. Pinch the handle under the air filter, arch it, and remove it from the slot.
  • Cleaning: Use warm, soapy water (below 40°C) to prevent distortion. Rinse, gently shake off excess water, and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight.
  • Caution: Never operate the air conditioner without the air filter, as dust and dirt can cause equipment failure.

General Cleaning:

  • Before cleaning or maintenance, ensure the power and circuit breaker are turned off.
  • Do not use water to clean inside the air conditioner, as it can damage insulation and cause electric shock.
  • Avoid strong detergents like wax or thinner; use a soft cloth to prevent damage to the unit's appearance.

Drainage: The manual describes three methods for condensed water drainage:

  1. Bottom Drainage:

    • Remove the rubber plug from the bottom of the cabinet and attach it to the back drain hole (if applicable).
    • Install the drain tray at the bottom of the unit and secure it with provided screws.
    • Connect a drain hose (purchased separately) to the drain tray outlet.
    • The drain tray outlet should always be downward to ensure smooth water drainage. This method has minimal impact on cooling efficiency and noise.
  2. Back Drainage (on models with back drain hole):

    • Fit the seal onto the drain joint.
    • Remove the rubber plug from the back of the unit (if applicable) and insert the rubber plug into the bottom drain hole.
    • Attach the drain joint to the back of the cabinet and rotate 90° to secure it.
    • Connect an extension drain hose (purchased separately) to the drain joint. This method may produce a "hit water" sound.
  3. Non-Drainage:

    • Both bottom and back drain holes should be inserted with rubber plugs.
    • This method provides perfect cooling efficiency but may result in a loud "hit water" sound and is not recommended.

Service:

  • For repair and maintenance, users should contact an authorized service dealer.
  • Installation should be performed by an authorized installer.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to help users identify and resolve common issues before calling for service.
