What to do if KTM 400 EXC RACING engine fails to idle?
    • D
      David BakerAug 18, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine fails to idle, it might be due to a clogged idling jet. In this case, disassemble the carburetor and clean the jets. Another cause could be incorrect adjustment of adjusting screws on the carburetor; have the carburetor adjusted. Also, check the spark plug and replace it if it's defective.

What to do if KTM Motorcycle engine doesn't crank?
    • R
      Ronnie WoodsAug 21, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine doesn't crank, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure the emergency-OFF switch is turned on (Australia only). Next, check for a blown fuse in the starter relay by removing the left paneling and filter box cover and replacing the fuse. A discharged battery can also be the culprit; recharge it and investigate why it discharged. If it's cold outside, try starting the engine with the kickstarter.

Why KTM Motorcycle engine will not reach full power?
    • D
      Darlene FigueroaAug 25, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine will not reach full power, the following could be the reasons: * A partially interrupted fuel supply or a dirty carburetor. Clean and check the fuel system and carburetor. * Leaking float. Replace the float. * A very dirty air filter. Clean or replace the air filter. * The exhaust system not being tight, being deformed, or the silencer not containing enough glass-fiber yarn. Check for exhaust damage and replace the glass fiber yarn in the exhaust silencer. * Too small valve gap. Adjust the valve gap. * Loss of compression because the hand decompressor has no play. Check the setting of the hand decompression cable.

What to do if KTM 400 EXC RACING engine gets too hot?
    • S
      scottduncanAug 28, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine gets too hot, it could be due to several reasons. Ensure there is sufficient cooling liquid by refilling if necessary. Make sure there is enough air stream by driving on briskly. Bleed the cooling system. If the radiators are very dirty, clean them with a water jet. If there is foam formation in the cooling system, replace the cooling liquid and use antifreeze liquid with a brand name. Check for a bent cooling hose and shorten or replace it. Inspect the thermostat; dismount and check it (opening temperature 70°C, (158°F) or replace it if defective.

Why KTM 400 EXC RACING engine does not rev high?
    • H
      Haley TerryAug 31, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine does not rev high, it could be due to: a carburetor fuel level being too high because the float needle valve is dirty or worn out (dismount the carburetor and check if it is worn out), loose carburetor jets (tighten the jets).

Why KTM 400 EXC RACING engine stops or splutters in carburetor?
    • C
      cassandra68Sep 3, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine stops or sputters in the carburetor, it could be due to insufficient fuel. Clean and check the fuel system and carburetor. Another reason may be that the engine takes air out of control. Check the rubber sleeve and carburetor for a tight fit.

What causes high oil consumption in KTM 400 EXC RACING?
    • D
      David WatsonSep 6, 2025
High oil consumption in your KTM motorcycle can be attributed to a few reasons. The hose of the engine ventilation might be bent; dislocate or replace it with a non-buckling ventilation hose. The engine oil level could be too high; check and correct it if necessary. Alternatively, the motor oil might be too thin (viscosity); use a thicker engine oil.

    • S
      Stephanie HendrixSep 8, 2025
If the horn, flasher lights, and E-starter on your KTM motorcycle do not work, it is probably due to a blown fuse in the starter relay. To fix this, dismount the left side paneling and filter box cover, then replace the fuse.

What to do if KTM 400 EXC RACING Motorcycle engine cranks but doesn’t start?
    • A
      Anthony WaltersNov 15, 2025
If your KTM motorcycle engine cranks but doesn’t start, consider these potential causes. Ensure the fuel tap is open, there's fuel in the tank, and the choke is engaged. If the motorcycle has been out of operation for a while, drain the old fuel from the float chamber. Also, check for any interruptions in the fuel supply and clean the fuel tap if necessary. If the engine is flooded, use the hand decompression lever, fully rev up the engine, and actuate the kickstarter 5 to 10 times to 'pump the engine free'. Inspect the spark plug; clean and dry it if it's sooty or wet, or replace it. Make sure the spark plug electrode gap is adjusted to 0.6 mm. If there's no spark, replace the spark plug. Clean the plug connection of the CDI-unit, the pulse generator or the ignition coil and treat it with...
