Overview

This document describes a splash-proof atomic clock with outdoor temperature and humidity display, designed for outdoor use. The clock, model 515-1912, comes with a remote sensor (TX191TH) and offers various features for timekeeping and environmental monitoring.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to provide accurate timekeeping through its atomic clock feature and to display both indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity. The atomic clock automatically synchronizes with the WWVB Atomic Time Signal, ensuring precise time without manual adjustment. It also includes a timer function for various timing needs. The splash-proof design makes it suitable for outdoor environments, providing reliable performance in different weather conditions.

Usage Features

Power Up and Initial Setup:

To begin using the clock, two AA batteries must be inserted into the outdoor sensor and two AA batteries into the atomic clock itself. After battery installation, basic settings need to be configured. Once the sensor establishes a connection with the clock, it should be placed outdoors in a shaded location for accurate readings. A video on sensor mounting is available for guidance.

Buttons and Navigation:

The clock features several buttons for easy navigation and setting adjustments:

  • TIMER Button: Used to set the timer duration (1-99 minutes). Holding this button allows you to set the duration, while pressing it starts, pauses, or restarts the timer.
  • PLUS (+) Button: Holding this button initiates a search for the outdoor sensor. Pressing it adjusts values during settings.
  • MINUS (-) Button: Pressing this button changes the display view.
  • SET Button: Holding this button allows you to set the time. Pressing it initiates a search for the atomic time signal.

Atomic Time Synchronization:

The clock automatically searches for the WWVB Atomic Time Signal at specific UTC times (7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00). During the search, the Atomic Time Indicator will flash; once connected, it will remain solid. Users can manually initiate a search for the atomic time signal by pressing the SET button from the normal time display.

Settings Menu:

The settings menu allows users to customize various aspects of the clock:

  1. Button Beep Sound: Users can turn the button beep sound ON or OFF.
  2. Atomic Time ON/OFF: The atomic time signal reception can be enabled or disabled.
  3. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Options:
    • DST ON: Clock gains 1 hour in spring and loses 1 hour in the fall.
    • DST OFF: Clock remains in Standard Time all year long.
    • DST ALWAYS ON: Clock remains in Daylight Saving Time all year long.
  4. Time Zone Selection: Users can select their specific time zone from options like Atlantic (AST), Eastern (EST), Central (CST), Mountain (MST), Pacific (PST), Alaska (AKT), and Hawaii (HAT).
  5. Time and Date Adjustment: Hour, minutes, year, month, and date can be manually set. The weekday automatically adjusts based on the set year, month, and date.
  6. Temperature Unit: Users can choose between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) for temperature display. To enter the settings mode, hold the SET button for 2 seconds. Press SET to confirm each selection and move to the next setting. If no button is pressed for 10 seconds, the clock will automatically exit the settings menu and return to the normal time display.

Custom Display Views:

The MINUS (-) button allows users to cycle through different display views:

  • Outdoor Temperature & Humidity: Shows the current outdoor temperature and humidity readings from the remote sensor.
  • Indoor Temperature and Seconds: Displays the indoor temperature and the current seconds. When the timer function is active, the Timer Icon and Timer Countdown will also be visible on the display.

Timer Functionality:

The clock includes a versatile timer:

  • Setting the Timer: Hold the TIMER button until the minutes begin to flash, then use the PLUS (+) or MINUS (-) buttons to adjust the duration from 1 to 99 minutes. Press the TIMER button again to confirm and exit. The Timer Icon will appear when the timer is active.
  • Starting/Pausing/Restarting: The timer starts automatically once set. Pressing the TIMER button pauses the timer, and the Timer Icon will flash. Pressing it again resumes the countdown.
  • Stopping the Timer: While the timer is displayed, pressing any button except the TIMER button will stop it. The timer will then automatically revert to the last set countdown time, which will be shown for 3 seconds before the clock defaults to the normal display with temperature/humidity. The remaining time is not saved if the timer is stopped before reaching zero; users must re-enter TIMER SETTINGS to change the duration.
  • Timer Sounds: When the timer countdown reaches zero, it will emit 5 beeps every 15 seconds for up to one minute. Pressing any button will stop the sound.

If the outdoor sensor loses connection with the clock, "NO" will be displayed after 30 minutes. The clock will automatically search for the sensor for 3 minutes every hour to re-establish connection. To manually search for the outdoor sensor, hold the PLUS (+) button until the Reception Icon begins to flash.

Low Battery Indicator:

The clock provides low battery indicators for both the main unit and the outdoor sensor. A low battery icon next to the time indicates that the clock's batteries need replacement. A low battery icon next to the outdoor temperature indicates that the sensor's batteries need replacement.
