The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 1:2/50 ASPH. is a high-speed standard lens designed for Leica SL and TL camera systems, offering outstanding rendering capacity. This manual provides essential information for familiarizing users with the lens's full scope of functions.
The lens is designed for both autofocus and manual focusing. In autofocus mode, the camera automatically sets the sharpness. In manual mode, the user turns the focus ring to adjust sharpness, with the speed of rotation determining the rate of change. This allows for both fine adjustments and quick transitions between close-up and long-range settings.
The lens does not feature a depth of field scale. Instead, the camera's top display shows the near and far focal length limits of the depth of field alongside the set distance.
The APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. comes with a lens hood optimally adapted to the beam paths. The symmetrical bayonet fitting allows the lens hood to be attached in reverse for more compact storage. To attach the lens hood, align one of the alignment points on the lens hood (1a) with the alignment point on the front mount of the lens (2b), then turn it clockwise by approximately 30° until it audibly clicks into place. The lens hood should remain attached during use or when the camera is ready for use, as it effectively eliminates contrast-reducing stray light and protects the front lens from damage and soiling.
Data exchange between the camera and lens, including control commands for autofocus and aperture, is facilitated via a contact strip in the bayonet.
The lens features a focus ring (3) for manual sharpness adjustments. The lens hood (1) has an alignment point (1a) for proper attachment to the front mount (2) of the lens, which also has an alignment point (2b). The front mount includes an internal thread for filters (2a) and a male bayonet for the lens hood (2c). An alignment button (4) is provided for lens replacement. A contact strip (5) ensures communication between the lens and the camera.
The APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. is compatible with screw filters of type E 67. Matching filters are available from Leica.
