Toinstallanoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Inserttheoperatingsysteminstallationdiscintotheopticaldrivethatyouhavesetastherststartup
device.Then,starttheserverfromtheopticaldrive.
2.WhenthemessagePressanykeytobootfromcdordvd...isdisplayed,pressanykey.Themessage
Windowsisloadingles...isdisplayed,andinstallationleswillbecopiedfromthesetupDVDtoyour
server.Thisprocesstakesseveralminutes.
3.WhentheWindowsServer2008installationwindowopens,congurethefollowingoptionsasyouneed
andthenclickNext.
•Languagetoinstall
•Timeandcurrencyformat
•Keyboardorinputmethod
4.ClickInstallnow.
5.TypeyourproductkeyandthenclickNext.TheproductkeyinformationisavailableontheMicrosoft
CerticateofAuthenticitylabelorproductpackaging.
6.SelecttheWindowsoperationsystemeditionthatyouhavepurchased.ThenclickNext.
Note:ThefollowingstepsarebasedonthescenariothatWindowsServer2008Standard(Full
Installation)isselectedinthisstep.
7.ReadthelicensetermsandclickIacceptthelicenseterms.ThenclickNext.
8.SelectCustom(Advanced)forfreshinstallation.
9.Whenallharddiskdrivesavailableontheserveraredisplayed,dooneofthefollowingtoselector
createadrivepartitioninwhichtoinstalltheoperatingsystem:
•Createapartitionautomatically:Ifyouwanttousetheentireharddiskdriveasoneprimarypartition,
selectDisk0unallocatedspacefortheharddiskdriveonwhichyouwanttoinstalltheoperating
systemandthenclickNext.Apartitionwillbecreatedautomatically.
•Manuallycreateapartition:Ifyouwanttocreateapartitionmanually,dothefollowing:
a.SelectDisk0unallocatedspacefortheharddiskdriveonwhichyouwanttoinstalltheoperating
system,clickDriveoptions(advanced),andthenclickNew.
b.Typetheamountofspace(inMB),andthenclickApply.
c.ClickNext.
Theselecteddrivepartitionwillbeformattedandtheapplicableleswillbecopiedtothedrivepartition.
Thisprocesstakesseveralminutes.Afterthat,theserverwillrestart.
Note:AmessageNodriveswerefoundmightbedisplayedindicatingthatyoudonothaveamass
storagedevicedriverinstalled.T oinstallamassstoragedevicedriver,connecttheUSBstoragedevice
containingtheRAIDcontrollerdrivertoyourserver,andthenselectLoadDriver.
Thesetupwillcontinueaftertheserverrestarts.Whentheinstallationiscompleted,theserverrestarts
again.
10.Beforeyoulogontotheserverforthersttime,followtheinstructionsonthescreentochangeyour
passwordwhenprompted.
