Toupdate(ash)theBIOS,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetolocatetheBIOS
updatepackage.
2.DownloadtheBIOSupdatepackageandtheinstallationinstructionsinaTXTle.Then,printthe
installationinstructions.
3.TurnontheserverandpresstheF1keyassoonasyouseethelogoscreentostarttheSetupUtility
program.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage57.
4.OntheSecuritymenu,checktheBIOSWriteProtectsetting.Toupdate(ash)theBIOS,theBIOS
WriteProtectitemmustbesettoDisabled.
5.PressF10tosavesettingsandexittheSetupUtilityprogram.Then,followtheinstallationinstructions
toupdate(ash)theBIOS.
6.CheckandreconguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecicneedsbasedonyournoteorreferto“Using
theSetupUtilityprogram”onpage57
aftertheBIOSupdateprocessiscompleted.
RecoveringfromaBIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhiletheBIOSisbeingupdated,yourservermightnotrestart
correctly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromtheBIOSupdatefailure.
TorecoverfromaBIOSupdatefailure,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetodownloada
BIOSupdatepackage.Then,makeabootablediscorabootableUSBkeyandprinttheTXTlethat
containstheinstallationinstructions.
2.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage87.
4.LocatetheBIOSrecoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardjumpers”onpage48.
5.RemoveanypartsordisconnectanycablesthatmightimpedeyouraccesstotheBIOSrecoveryjumper.
6.MovetheBIOSrecoveryjumperfromthenormalposition(pin1andpin2)totherecoveryposition
(pin2andpin3).
7.Reinstallanypartsorreconnectanycablesandreinstalltheservercover.See“Completingtheparts
replacement”onpage170.
8.ConnecttheservertoanacpowersourceandthenfollowtheinstallationinstructionsfortheBIOS
updateutilityprogramtostarttheserverfromtherecoveryimage.Therecoverywindowopens.
9.PressEntertostarttherecoveryprocess.Aftertherecoveryprocessiscompleted,yourserverwill
automaticallyturnoff.
10.Repeatstep2throughstep5.
11.MovetheBIOSrecoveryjumperbacktothenormalposition(pin1andpin2).
12.Reinstallanypartsorreconnectanycablesandreinstalltheservercover.See“Completingtheparts
replacement”onpage170.
13.Connecttheservertoanacpowersourceandturnontheserver.TheBIOSsettingsbecomethedefault
settingsoftheupdatedBIOSversion.YouneedtocheckandconguretheBIOSsettingsforyour
specicneeds.See“UsingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage57.
