Do you have a question about the LevelOne GEP-0823 and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the LevelOne GEP-0823, an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Switch designed for small to medium-sized networks.
The GEP-0823 is an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Switch that supports the IEEE802.3ab 1000Base-T standard, operating in both full-duplex and half-duplex modes. It provides eight UTP ports with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, making it suitable for 10/100/1000M networks. The switch is designed to power compatible Power Devices (PDs) directly through the Ethernet cable, simplifying network deployment by eliminating the need for separate power outlets for connected devices.
The package includes:
The switch features RJ-45 interfaces for all its copper ports. These ports support Auto-Negotiation for optimal speed detection (10/100/1000Mbps) when using RJ-45 CAT5 UTP cables up to 100 meters (328 feet) in length. Additionally, all ports support Auto-MDI/MDI-X, which automatically detects the type of Ethernet connection, eliminating the need for special straight-through or crossover cables.
To connect devices, one end of a standard UTP CAT5 network cable should be connected to one of the 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 ports on the front panel of the switch. The other end of the cable connects to typical network devices, which can include 802.3af compliant Power Devices (PDs) or other network devices like workstations, hubs, or switches.
To power on the switch, connect one end of the provided power adapter to the switch's DC inlet power socket on the rear panel, which accepts 52V DC input power. Then, connect the power plug of the adapter to a standard wall outlet. Once powered on, the PWR LED on the front panel should illuminate static green, indicating that the device is active. The LEDs for each port will indicate the connection status of the corresponding port.
The LED indicators provide crucial information about the device's status and help in troubleshooting.
| LED | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| PWR | Green | Device active |
| POE P1~P8 | Yellow | PoE function active and Connected PD is supplied with PoE |
| OFF | PoE function deactivated or No PD identified | |
| L/A P1~P8 | Green | Link to port |
| Blink | Data transfer to port | |
| SPD P1~P8 | Green | Transfer rate is 1000Mbps |
| OFF | Transfer rate is 10/100Mbps |
The GEP-0823 is designed for indoor applications. It supports standard UTP CAT5 network cables for distances up to 100 meters between the switch and connected devices. For 10Mbps operations, Cat.3/4/5 cables can be used, but for 100/1000Mbps operations, Cat.5 UTP or better data-grade cables are required to ensure optimal performance. The appliance inlet serves as the disconnect device and must remain readily operable at all times.
