HDMI Extender over CAT5e/6
CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and
environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic
Area (EEA).The CE marking is also found on products sold outside the EEA that have
been manufactured to EEA standards. This makes the CE marking recognizable
worldwide even to people who are not familiar with the European Economic Area.
WEEE is waste electrical and electronic equipment. It is end-of-life electrical and
electronic equipment and covers virtually everything with a plug or battery. ... The
EC introduced the WEEE Directive in 2002 to address the environmental impacts of
unwanted electrical and electronic equipment at end-of-life disposal.

Overview

This document describes the HVE-9006, an HDMI Extender designed to transmit HDMI signals over CATx cable. This device facilitates the extension of high-definition video and audio signals, making it suitable for various setups where the source and display are separated by a significant distance.

The primary function of the HVE-9006 is to extend HDMI signals, including 1080p@60Hz video, embedded multi-channel audio, and HDCP 1.4, over a CATx cable for distances up to 50 meters. This capability is achieved through a Transmitter (TX) and a Receiver (RX) unit, which work in conjunction to relay the HDMI data. The use of CATx cable, specifically CAT5e/6, offers a cost-effective and flexible solution for long-distance HDMI transmission compared to traditional HDMI cables.

A key usage feature of the HVE-9006 is its built-in EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) management. EDID is crucial for ensuring compatibility between the HDMI source device (e.g., a Blu-ray player, game console, or PC) and the display device (e.g., a TV, monitor, or projector). By incorporating built-in EDID, the extender automatically negotiates the optimal video and audio settings, thereby ensuring seamless transmission and display of HDMI signals without manual configuration issues. This feature significantly enhances the plug-and-play experience, making the device compatible with a wide range of existing HDMI equipment.

Another notable feature is the advanced Power over Cable (PoC) design. With PoC, only one power supply is required, which is connected to the Transmitter unit. The Receiver unit then draws its power directly through the CATx cable, eliminating the need for a separate power adapter at the display end. This simplifies installation by reducing cable clutter and the number of power outlets required, making the setup cleaner and more convenient, especially in environments where power outlets are scarce near the display.

The HVE-9006 also supports bidirectional IR (infrared) pass-through. This means that IR signals can be sent in both directions over the same CATx cable. This feature allows users to control the source device from the display location or vice versa. For example, if the source device (like a DVD player) is located near the Transmitter and the display is near the Receiver, an IR remote control used at the display location can send commands back to the source device. This adds a layer of convenience, as users do not need to be in the same room as the source device to operate it. The IR pass-through functionality is implemented with dedicated IR IN and IR OUT ports on both the Transmitter and Receiver units, allowing for connection of IR receivers and emitters.

For installation, the Transmitter unit includes an HDMI IN port for connecting to the HDMI source, and an HDMI OUT port for a local loop output, allowing a display to be connected directly to the Transmitter if needed. The CAT OUT port on the Transmitter connects to the CAT IN port on the Receiver via the CATx cable. The Receiver unit then has an HDMI OUT port to connect to the main display. Both units feature RJ45 connectors with Green and Yellow indicators. The Green indicator lights up when the unit is powered on, and the Yellow indicator illuminates when a successful link is established between the Transmitter and Receiver, providing visual confirmation of the connection status.

Regarding maintenance and optimal performance, the Receiver unit includes an "EQ SETTING" button. After the system is connected, users are advised to press this button three to six times repeatedly until the best image output is achieved. This equalization setting helps to fine-tune the signal quality, especially over longer cable runs or when encountering signal degradation. This adjustment is particularly useful if the cable, source, or display is changed, or if the output resolution is reset, ensuring that the best possible image quality is maintained. This manual adjustment capability provides a degree of control over the video output, allowing users to optimize the display for their specific setup.

The device is designed to be compliant with HDMI 1.3 and HDCP 1.4 standards, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of modern HDMI equipment and content protection mechanisms. The compact dimensions of both the Transmitter and Receiver units (66mm x 16.8mm x 66mm) make them easy to integrate into various setups without occupying much space. The lightweight design, with the Transmitter weighing 36g and the Receiver 38g, further contributes to their ease of installation and portability.

In summary, the HVE-9006 HDMI Extender is a practical solution for extending HDMI signals over CATx cable, offering features such as built-in EDID for compatibility, PoC for simplified power management, and bidirectional IR pass-through for remote control convenience. Its design focuses on ease of use and reliable performance, making it suitable for both home and professional AV installations.
