Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an LG REFRIGERATOR FREEZER, providing essential information for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The manual emphasizes safety precautions throughout its content.

Function Description

The LG REFRIGERATOR FREEZER is designed for storing fresh and frozen foods, maintaining optimal temperatures in both compartments. It utilizes isobutane refrigerant (R600a), a natural gas with high environmental compatibility. The appliance features a compressor and circulating fan to regulate cooling, and it includes a built-in diagnostic capability (Smart Diagnosis) to assist with troubleshooting and repair.

Usage Features

Installation:

The refrigerator should be placed in a good location, away from heat sources, direct sunlight, or moisture. Sufficient space (at least 2 inches or 5 cm from the rear wall) is required for proper air circulation. The unit must be level, with adjustable leveling screws to compensate for uneven floors; the front should be slightly higher to aid door closing. The appliance should not be installed below 5°C. Before storing food, it's recommended to leave the refrigerator on for 2-3 hours to stabilize temperatures.

Temperature Control:

The refrigerator has separate temperature controls for the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The refrigerator compartment has a temperature control button with a default setting of '3°C' and seven steps from MIN (warmest) to MAX (coldest). The freezer compartment has a temperature control dial with a default setting of '3'. These settings should generally not be changed unless necessary. A temperature sensor in the refrigerator compartment automatically controls the compressor.

Door Alarm:

An alarm sounds if the refrigerator or freezer door remains open for 1 minute, repeating every 30 seconds.

Self Test:

The refrigerator has a self-test function that displays error codes in case of malfunction, assisting repair technicians. If an error code appears, contact a service center and do not disconnect the power cord.

Express Freeze:

This feature operates automatically when the refrigerator is first turned on, running the compressor and fan at maximum capacity to quickly lower the freezer temperature. It can also be manually activated via a button on the control panel when warm food is placed inside. Express Freeze automatically shuts off once the proper temperature is reached or can be manually turned off.

Lock (Optional):

The lock function can be activated by pressing and holding the Lock button for 3 seconds. When locked, the Lock LED illuminates, and other buttons become inoperable. To unlock, press and hold the Lock button for 3 seconds again.

Hygiene Fresh (Optional):

This feature has an antibacterial function to remove viruses and bacteria, and a deodorizer function to remove scents inside the refrigerator. It can be switched between OFF, AUTO, and POWER modes via a button on the display panel. In AUTO or POWER mode, an LED around the filter turns on. Users are cautioned not to wash the filter with water or insert fingers/particles into the fan.

Ice Making (Twisting Ice Serve Type):

To make ice cubes, fill the ice tray with water and insert it into position. To remove cubes, gently pull and turn the tray's lever, causing the cubes to drop into the ice cube box. The Ice Maker can be disassembled to create more freezer space. Only water should be used, filled up to the marked line.

Defrosting:

Defrosting occurs automatically. The defrosted water flows into an evaporating tray at the lower back of the refrigerator and evaporates automatically.

Deodorizer (Optional):

Located in the cooling air inlet, the deodorizer removes unpleasant odors from the fresh food compartment. No special handling is required, but users should avoid pricking the inlet. Strong-smelling foods should be wrapped or stored in lidded containers. The deodorizer can be revived by separating it from the ceiling, using a hair dryer to remove moisture, and oxidizing it under sunlight.

Vegetable Drawer:

Includes a vegetable partitioner that can be inserted at the rear side of the vegetable box. The drawer's function is controlled by a knob, and users should check the knob's position before storing food.

Refreshment Center (Optional):

Allows for tilting the transparent door bin by grasping the front pocket and lifting it up, then pulling it forward. To close, place the bin back into its original position until a "click" is heard.

Water Dispenser (Optional):

Water can be poured directly into the water tank by opening the cover cap. The water tank is a removable part that can be taken out to enlarge storage capacity; the upper basket can then be used after removing the tank and closing the hole with a plug (enclosed with the egg tray). Only potable water should be used, and hot water must be cooled before being put into the tank. To dispense water, press the dispenser pad with a cup.

Food Storage Suggestions:

  • Store fresh food in the refrigerator compartment, ensuring good air circulation.
  • Avoid storing foods that spoil easily at low temperatures (e.g., bananas, pineapples, melons).
  • Allow hot food to cool before storing to prevent spoilage and higher electric bills.
  • Cover food with vinyl wrap or store in lidded containers to prevent moisture loss and maintain taste/nutrients.
  • Do not block air vents.
  • Avoid frequent door openings.
  • Do not store bottles in the freezer as they may break.
  • Do not refreeze thawed food.
  • Place frozen food like ice cream on freezer shelves, not door racks, for long-term storage.
  • Load food at least 15mm from the freezer wall for good air circulation.
  • Newly introduced foods for freezing should be placed in specific positions.
  • Freezer Door Baskets (marked **) are -12°C compartments suitable for short-term storage of frozen food.
  • Avoid placing moist food directly on deep interior refrigerator shelves to prevent freezing; use covered containers or store near the door.
  • Wash and wipe vegetables/fruits, and wipe packed food clean before refrigeration.
  • Store fresh eggs upright in their storage rack.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent odors and stains. Spilled food should be wiped up immediately. Avoid metallic scouring pads, brushes, coarse abrasive cleaners, or strong alkaline solutions. Always remove the power cord before cleaning near electrical parts. Do not use flammable or toxic cleaning liquids.

  • Exterior: Clean with a lukewarm solution of mild soap or dishwashing solution, then wipe with a clean, damp cloth and dry. For stainless steel exteriors, use a clean sponge or soft cloth with mild detergent in warm water; avoid abrasive cleaners, appliance wax, bleach, or chlorine-containing products.
  • Interior: Clean interior parts, shelves, door racks, storage trays, and magnetic door seals with a lukewarm solution of mild soap or dishwashing solution, then wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry.
  • Water Dispenser Grille: Wipe with a wet cloth and dry.
  • Water Tank: Disassemble the water tank, clean inside and out with dishwashing detergent, rinse thoroughly, and dry. Clean the cap similarly.

Lamp Replacement:

This product uses LED lamps that cannot be replaced by the user. Contact an authorized service center for lamp replacement.

Earth (Grounding) Construction (Optional):

It is recommended to install an earth wire to prevent electric shock from leakage. The earth wire's metal ring end should be connected to the earth screw on the back of the refrigerator, and the other end (with insulation peeled off) should be attached to a metal screw/nail driven into the wall or ground. Do not connect the earth wire to gas pipes, telephone earth wires, lightning rods, or water pipes made of plastic. In humid or wet locations, earth wire installation is mandatory, and a circuit breaker may also be required by law.

Important Warnings:

  • Do not use an extension cord.
  • Ensure the supply plug is accessible for quick disconnection.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or service agent.
  • Do not modify or extend the power cord length.
  • When disposing of an old refrigerator, remove gaskets, latches, lids, or the entire door to prevent children from getting trapped.
  • Do not store inflammable materials, explosives, or chemicals inside the refrigerator.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  • The appliance contains recyclable materials; contact the local agency for disposal.

Troubleshooting (Before Calling for Service):

The manual provides a table of common problems and their possible causes, such as the refrigerator not operating (blown fuse, loose power cord), compartments being too warm (incorrect temperature setting, proximity to heat source, frequent door openings, large food load), abnormal noise (uneven installation, loose objects), odor (uncovered food, dirty interior), and dew on the cabinet surface (high humidity, door left ajar).
