Overview

This document is the owner's manual for an LG Refrigerator-Freezer, identified by P/No. MFL60345903. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, along with useful hints to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Function Description:

The LG Refrigerator-Freezer is designed for storing fresh and frozen foods. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, each with independent temperature controls to maintain ideal conditions for different food types. The refrigerator compartment is intended for fresh food storage, while the freezer compartment is for long-term storage of frozen items and ice making.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant: R-134a, a fluorinated greenhouse gas.
  • Composition of Gases: 100% HFC-134a.
  • Total GWP (kg CO2-eq): 1300.
  • Grounding (Earthing): The appliance must be grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock in case of a short circuit.
  • Power Supply: Requires connection to an individual electrical outlet to prevent overloads.
  • Installation Clearance: Maintain at least 2 inches (5 cm) from the rear wall for proper air circulation.
  • Leveling: Adjustable leveling screws are provided to ensure stability and proper door closure.
  • Defrosting: Automatic defrosting system.
  • Deodorizer (Optional): Utilizes a catalyst for deodorizing, designed not to be pricked with sharp objects.
  • Vitamin Kit (Optional): Contains an anti-oxidant to prolong the freshness of fruits and vegetables. This substance is not for consumption.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control:
    • Refrigerator Compartment: Controlled by a knob with settings from MIN (warmer) to MAX (colder). The default setting is 'MID'.
    • Freezer Compartment: Controlled by a dial (Type A or Type B) with settings typically from 1 (Freezer Min) to 7 (Freezer Max). Default setting is '2' or '3'.
    • Adjustments: In cold weather, the freezer may warm up, requiring a setting of "6"~"7" for colder temperatures. Frequent door openings or large amounts of food in the freezer may also necessitate a "6"~"7" setting. For a colder refrigerator compartment, especially in hot weather or with many foods, the TEMPCONTROL should be set to "2"~"3". Settings of "6"~"7" on the TEMPCONTROL will result in a warmer refrigerator compartment.
  • Ice Making:
    • General Type: Fill ice trays with water, place them on the ice cube box, and insert into the freezer. Ice cubes are removed by twisting the tray.
    • Twisting Ice Serve Type: Fill ice trays with water and insert them into their designated position. To release ice, turn the knob on the tray, and cubes will drop into the ice cube box. The Twisting Ice Serve unit can be removed to increase freezer space.
  • Chilled Compartment: Designed to keep fresh meat fresher by minimizing the influence of warmer air when the door is opened.
  • Food Storage Suggestions:
    • Store fresh food in the refrigerator compartment.
    • Avoid storing foods that spoil easily at low temperatures (e.g., bananas, pineapples, melons).
    • Allow hot food to cool before storing to prevent spoilage and higher energy consumption.
    • Cover food with vinyl wrap or store in lidded containers to retain moisture, taste, and nutrients.
    • Do not block air vents to ensure even circulation of chilled air.
    • Minimize door openings to prevent warm air entry and temperature fluctuations.
    • Do not store bottles in the freezer compartment to prevent breakage.
    • Do not refreeze thawed food to preserve taste and nutrition.
    • Place frozen foods like ice cream on freezer shelves, not in door racks, for long-term storage.
    • Avoid placing moist food deep inside refrigerator shelves to prevent freezing.
    • Wash and wipe vegetables and fruits, and clean packed food before refrigeration.
    • Store fresh eggs upright in their storage rack.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Exterior: Clean with a lukewarm solution of mild soap or detergent, then wipe with a clean, damp cloth and dry.
    • Interior: Regular cleaning is recommended. For No Frost models, leave both doors open during cleaning. Disconnect power, remove all food, shelves, and trays. Wash with a baking soda solution (2 TBS soda to 1 quart water), rinse, and dry.
    • Interior Parts: Wash shelves, door racks, storage trays, and magnetic door seals with baking soda solution or mild detergent and warm water, then rinse and dry.
    • Safety Precaution: Always remove the power cord from the wall outlet before cleaning near electrical parts (lamps, switches, controls) to prevent electric shock. Do not use flammable or toxic cleaning liquids.
  • Lamp Replacement:
    1. Unplug the power cord.
    2. Remove refrigerator shelves.
    3. Insert a slotted driver into the under hole of the lamp cover and pull it forwards to remove.
    4. Turn the lamp counterclockwise.
    5. Assemble in reverse order. The replacement bulb must have the same specifications as the original.
  • Vacation Time: For average vacations, leave the refrigerator operating and place freezable items in the freezer. For extended periods, remove all food, disconnect power, clean the interior, and leave doors open to prevent odor.
  • Power Failure: Most power failures are short and will not significantly affect temperatures. Minimize door openings. For longer failures, use dry ice on frozen packages with adequate ventilation to prevent suffocation from CO2 vapors.
  • Moving: Empty the refrigerator, wash the interior with a mild baking soda solution, and secure loose items. Do not move a loaded refrigerator.
  • Anti-Condensation Pipe: The outer cabinet wall may feel warm, especially after installation, due to an anti-condensation pipe circulating hot refrigerant to prevent sweating. This is normal.
