Usage Features

The dishwasher offers a range of features to enhance user convenience and cleaning effectiveness:

  • Control Panel: Features a POWER On/Off Button, Option Setting Mode, Display (Rinse Aid Refill, Machine Clean, Digital Display for cycle time), Cancel Button, START Button, and Front Time Indicator.
  • Wash Cycles:
    • Auto: Senses soil amount and toughness for optimized cleaning.
    • Normal: For daily, regular, or typical use with normally soiled dishes.
    • Heavy: For heavily soiled dishes and hardened-on soil, with strongest spray intensity.
    • Delicate: For delicate items like fine china and stemware.
    • 1 Hour: Cleans and dries lightly soiled dishes in one hour, with an option for heated drying (Dry Boost).
    • Refresh: Freshens up and warms unused dishes; does not use detergent and steam option cannot be turned off.
    • Download Cycle: Allows downloading specialized cycles via the LG ThinQ app (default is Machine Clean). Downloadable cycles include Express (quick clean, no drying), Rinse (quick rinse, no detergent, no drying), Pots & Pans (for heavily soiled cookware), Casseroles (for greasy dishes), and Glassware (for delicate glassware).
  • Options and Extra Functions:
    • Steam: Adds steam at the start of the cycle for improved wash performance and sanitization (except Refresh cycle).
    • Flex Zone: Adjusts wash intensity for specific zones (upper rack, lower rack, or soft upper/strong lower).
    • High Temp.: Raises main wash temperature for better cleaning.
    • Dry Boost: Offers three settings (Low, High, Off) for heated drying performance. Dry Boost Low is automatically added to cycles if the rinse aid dispenser is empty (except Normal, 1 Hour cycles).
    • Night Dry: Runs the ventilation fan periodically after the cycle to vent steam and prevent dishes from remaining wet overnight.
    • Delay Start: Delays the start of a cycle from 1 to 12 hours.
    • Remote Start: Allows remote control and monitoring via the LG ThinQ smartphone app.
    • Control Lock (CL): Prevents settings from being changed during a cycle (locks all buttons except POWER).
    • Sanitized Indicator: Lights up if dishes were properly sanitized with the Steam option (except Refresh cycle).
    • Wi-Fi LED: Illuminates when connected to a home Wi-Fi network.
  • Loading Features:
    • Silverware Basket: Includes separators to prevent scratching and tarnishing. Recommended to load sharp items pointing down.
    • Lower Rack: Tines can be folded down to fit larger dishes.
    • Upper Rack: Height adjustable to accommodate larger items. Tines can be folded down.
    • Cup Rack: (Available on some models) Fold-down racks for extra cups or long-stemmed glasses. Removable and interchangeable.
    • Cutlery Rack: (Available on some models) Best suited for flatware, with separators for improved cleaning.

  • Detergent and Rinse Aid Dispenser:
    • Detergent amount depends on cycle, load size, and soil level.
    • Rinse aid is recommended to prevent water spots and enhance drying. The dispenser has five adjustable levels (L0-L4), factory-set to L2. The Rinse Aid Refill LED indicates low rinse aid.
  • LG ThinQ Application:
    • Feature Update: Updates product features via the app.
    • Monitoring: Checks current status, cycle, options, running time, and cycle end time.
    • Download Cycle: Downloads specialized cycles to the dishwasher.
    • Machine Clean Coach: Shows cycles remaining before a recommended Machine Clean.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning and Care:
    • Exterior: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid alcohol, thinners, bleach, benzene, flammable liquids, or abrasives.
    • Interior: Periodically clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Remove food debris from filters.
    • Machine Clean Cycle: Use with citric acid or other cleaning agents to clean the inside of the dishwasher, eliminating residual soils, odor, and white spots. Recommended every 30 cycles (LED flashes).
    • Drain Air Gap/In-Sink Disposal: Check and clean if the dishwasher is not draining well.
    • Filters: Clean after each load for best wash performance. In hard water areas, clean at least once a month with a soft brush and non-abrasive materials under warm running water. The manual provides a recommended filter cleaning schedule based on loads per week and pre-loading habits.
    • Spray Arms (Lower and Upper): Clean if holes are blocked by food particles using a pin or stiff wire. Remove the upper spray arm by turning a nut counter-clockwise.
    • Heat Dry Blower: Periodically remove food residue from the gap below the cover (every 4 months). Wait for it to cool before cleaning. Do not allow water or detergents inside the tube.
  • Seasonal Maintenance and Storage:
    • For extended absence in warmer months, close the water valve, disconnect power, and clean the filter, tub, and dispenser.
    • For colder months with freezing temperatures, winterize water supply lines and the dishwasher by qualified service personnel.
