Race bike brake shoes are gener-
ally fitted with a "wing", which acts as a guide for the wheel during
installation. Because of the aerodynamic rim profile, the wing may
come into contact with the surface of the rims when the brake pad is
50% worn. It consists of one layer of carbon and is easily damaged.
