Overview

This document provides troubleshooting and usage information for the Logitech K750 Wireless Solar Keyboard and related Logitech software.

Function Description:

The Logitech K750 is a wireless solar keyboard designed to be powered by ambient light. It connects to a computer wirelessly, typically using a USB receiver. The keyboard is intended for general computer input and can be customized using Logitech's SetPoint software. It also features a dedicated Solar App to monitor its power status and light levels.

Usage Features:

Power and Battery Management:

The K750 keyboard is powered by ambient light, eliminating the need for traditional batteries. Its solar cells charge the internal power reserve. To check the battery status, users can press the "Check Light Button" located above the number pad. A green LED flash indicates a good battery level, while a red LED flash signifies a low battery. The battery indicator lights are designed to flash only briefly to conserve power and do not stay on.

The Logitech Solar App is a crucial tool for monitoring the keyboard's power. It displays the current LUX level (light intensity) and the keyboard's energy reserve status (e.g., "Excellent," "Your energy reserve is high"). If the Solar App indicates a low LUX level or the red LED flashes even in a well-lit room, it suggests a potential issue with the solar cell or insufficient light exposure. In such cases, placing the keyboard in a well-lit room or direct sunlight for a few hours is recommended to recharge it.

If the keyboard consistently drains power and times out, it might be due to keys being continuously pressed (e.g., by an object resting on the keyboard). To reactivate it, the keyboard needs to be turned off and then back on.

Keyboard Customization (SetPoint Software):

The Logitech SetPoint Mouse and Keyboard Software allows users to customize the K750's settings, particularly the F-key functions. The "My Keyboard" tab within SetPoint provides options to assign various tasks to the F-keys, such as launching applications, opening web pages, or performing specific keystroke assignments. Users can choose between a "Default Task" or customize each F-key individually. There's also an option to "Swap F key functions," which might alter the default behavior of the F-keys.

If the "My Keyboard" tab is missing from SetPoint, it indicates a software issue that requires reinstallation of SetPoint.

Wireless Connectivity and Interference:

The K750 connects wirelessly using a USB 2.0 2.4GHz receiver. Users might experience erratic operation, such as delayed responses, missing characters, or decreased operating distance, if a USB 3.0 peripheral device is also plugged into the PC. This interference is more likely with USB 3.0 remote hard drives or flash drives.

To mitigate this, users can:

  1. Separate receivers: If the PC has multiple USB 2.0 connectors, plug the K750's receiver into a port on the opposite side of the PC from any USB 3.0 devices.
  2. Proximity to peripheral: Position the USB 2.0 receiver as close as possible to the keyboard.
  3. USB-extender cable: Use a standard USB-extender cable to position the USB 2.0 wireless receiver as far away as possible from the USB 3.0 connector. Logitech offers such cables for users experiencing this problem.

Num Lock Behavior (Windows 10):

By default, the Num Lock on the K750 keyboard is disabled each time Windows 10 boots up after a shutdown or restart. To configure the operating system to keep Num Lock on during startup, advanced changes are required, and users are advised to contact professional support for their operating system.

Unifying Receiver and Wake-up Settings:

The Unifying receiver, even if bundled with a mouse-only or keyboard-only product, enumerates for both mouse and keyboard interfaces. This means that even if a user has disabled the ability for a Unifying mouse or keyboard to wake up the system in Windows Device Manager, it might still do so.

To prevent Unifying devices from waking up the computer:

  1. Open "Device Manager" through "Computer Management."
  2. Expand "Keyboards" and "Mice and other pointing devices."
  3. For each entry, check its "Hardware IDs" under the "Details" tab to identify the Logitech Unifying device (HID\VID_046D&PID_C52B).
  4. Once identified, go to the "Power Management" tab and uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer." This process needs to be repeated for all relevant mouse and keyboard entries.

K750 Battery Status in Logitech Unifying Software:

In the Logitech Unifying Software's "Advanced View," the battery status for the K750 keyboard is displayed as "Unknown." This is expected behavior for this specific version of the software and keyboard. Users should rely on the Logitech Solar App for accurate battery monitoring.

Maintenance Features:

Software Reinstallation for Customization Issues:

If the "My Keyboard" tab is missing from the Logitech SetPoint software, it indicates a need to reinstall SetPoint. The document provides detailed steps for uninstalling SetPoint on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. This involves navigating to "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) or "Uninstall a program" (Windows Vista/7), selecting "Logitech SetPoint," and following the uninstallation prompts. After uninstalling, users should download and install the latest version of SetPoint from the K750 Downloads Page. A system restart may be required after installation.

Troubleshooting Missing My Keyboard Tab (Advanced):

If the "My Keyboard" tab is still missing after reinstallation, a more advanced troubleshooting step involves renaming a system file. Users are instructed to:

  1. Exit SetPoint from the system tray.
  2. Open the "Run" dialog box and type %windir%.
  3. Navigate to the System32 folder, then the drivers folder.
  4. Rename wdf01000.sys to wdf01000.bak.
  5. Reinstall SetPoint.

A critical warning is provided: users must ensure the wdf01000.sys file is present in the drivers folder before rebooting, as its absence can prevent hardware (including mice and keyboards) from working properly. If the file is not present, the renamed wdf01000.bak should be changed back to wdf01000.sys before rebooting. After the system restarts, SetPoint should be opened to verify the presence of the "My Keyboard" tab.
