Overview

The Lorus VX43 is an analogue quartz watch, designed for reliability and ease of use. It functions primarily as a time-telling device, with some models offering additional day and date displays. The watch is branded under Lorus, a name that emphasizes trust and quality.

Function Description:

The core function of the Lorus VX43 is to display the time accurately using an analogue quartz movement. Depending on the specific model, it can be categorized into two main types:

  1. Non-Calendar Model: This basic model focuses solely on time display (hours, minutes, seconds).
  2. Day/Date Model: This enhanced model provides not only the time but also the day of the week and the date. The day display can be bilingual, offering options for English and another language, which the user can select.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Movement: Analogue Quartz. This type of movement uses a quartz crystal oscillator to keep time, known for its accuracy and minimal maintenance compared to mechanical watches.
  • Calibre: VX43. This specific calibre number identifies the particular movement used in the watch.
  • Battery: The watch is powered by a button battery. While a battery is pre-inserted at the factory for testing, its actual life may be shorter than the specified period. Users are advised to replace the battery as soon as it runs down to prevent malfunction.
  • Water Resistance: Lorus VX43 watches come with varying degrees of water resistance, indicated on the dial or case back. These levels include:
    • No indication: Not water resistant.
    • "WATER RESISTANT": Suitable for accidental splashes and rain.
    • "WATER RESISTANT" (50M/5 BAR): Suitable for swimming.
    • "WATER RESISTANT" (100M/10 BAR): Suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
    • "WATER RESISTANT" (200M/20 BAR): Suitable for scuba diving. It is crucial not to press buttons or turn the crown when the watch is wet, especially in water-resistant models. If exposed to saltwater, the watch should be rinsed with fresh water and thoroughly dried.
  • LUMIBRITE Technology (for specific models): Some Lorus VX43 watches feature LUMIBRITE, an environmentally friendly luminous material. This material absorbs and stores light energy from natural and artificial sources, then emits light in the dark. LUMIBRITE watches can glow for hours after exposure to sufficient light (e.g., 10 minutes of light >500 lux or 2 minutes of direct sunlight). The brightness gradually decreases over time, and the glow duration can vary based on light source intensity and distance.

Usage Features:

  • Setting Time (Non-Calendar Model):
    1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
    2. Set the time by turning the crown.
    3. Push the crown back in.
    • Note: For precise time setting, it's recommended to advance the minute hand slightly past the desired time and then turn it counterclockwise to the correct time.
  • Setting Day and Date (Day/Date Model):
    1. Pull the crown out to the first click position.
    2. Turn the crown to set the previous day and date. The day and date can be selected bilingually (English/another language). For Cal. PC33, turn clockwise to set the date only.
    3. For Cal. PC33, at the second click position, turn hands clockwise and counterclockwise repeatedly between 11:15 pm and 3:45 am to select the desired day and language.
    • Caution: Avoid setting the day and date between 9:00 pm and 4:00 am, as this may cause the display to change out of sequence.
  • Setting Time (Day/Date Model):
    1. Pull the crown out to the second click position; the second hand will stop, ideally at the 12 o'clock position.
    2. Set the desired time by turning the crown.
    3. Push the crown back in to the normal position, synchronizing with a time signal.
    • Important: Ensure AM/PM is correctly set, as the day and date change once every 24 hours. For precise quartz watch setting, advance the minute hand 4-5 minutes past the correct time, then turn it counterclockwise to the designated time.
  • Band Length Adjustment (Sliding Clasp Band):
    1. Pry up the adjusting flap on the clasp using a small screwdriver or a sharpened tip.
    2. Slide the clasp to adjust it to the desired size along the bracelet.
    3. Ensure the grooves on the back of the bracelet fit into the convex portion on the clasp, then close the adjusting flap securely.
    • Warning: Improper adjustment (e.g., forcing the flap) can damage the clasp.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Change: When the battery runs down, it should be replaced promptly by a local watch retailer to prevent malfunction. Old batteries should not be exposed to fire, recharged, or left within reach of children.
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the case and band is important, as they are in direct contact with the skin. This prevents staining of shirt sleeves and reduces the risk of skin rashes. If a rash develops, discontinue wearing the watch and consult a physician.
  • Water Exposure: For water-resistant models, avoid operating buttons or the crown when wet. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry it thoroughly. Note that leather straps are generally not water-resistant unless specifically indicated.
  • Magnetism: Strong magnetic fields can adversely affect the watch's accuracy. Keep the watch away from magnetic objects.
  • Shocks and Vibrations: The watch is designed for normal sports activities, but dropping it or hitting it on hard surfaces should be avoided.
  • Temperature: The watch is pre-adjusted for accurate performance at normal temperatures. Extreme temperatures may affect its accuracy.
  • Service: For repairs or servicing, refer to the enclosed warranty/guarantee information.
