1. Obtain aluminum similar in thickness and alloy to original metal. (5052 H-34)
2. Cut patch large enough to extend 2 inches beyond the crack in every direction.
3. Form piece to fit contour of area to be patched.
4. Line edges of patch with 3/4-inch rubber tape.
5. Place patch on inside of hull over the crack. Rivet in place.
6. Space rivets every 1/2-inch around the edges of the patch.
7. Place one rivet at each end of crack itself and then install a line of rivets along
the entire length of the crack, drilling holes directly in the crack.
8. Flow bead of sealant all around the edge of the patch inside the
hull and along exposed areas of the crack outside the hull.
1. Get a can of aerosol touch-up paint (or the paint codes for your boat) from your
LUND dealer. Follow instructions for use on the can. It should be understood
that, on older boats exposed to sun and weather, colors may not match exactly.
2. A few tips: Using graded sand papers, smooth area to be painted; clean area
with clearing agent to remove wax, dust, grease, etc. without lifting surround
ing paint; treat bare surface with either zinc chromate primer or acid etch wash
primer; always use several light coats of paint rather than a single heavy one.
1. Always use an organic paint remover to soak all original paint and primer from
the aluminum. Caustic base removers can be harmful to aluminum alloys.
2. Use a wire brush to clean soaked paint from around the rivet heads and seams.
