Do you have a question about the MA lighting MA 2Port Node and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The MA 2Port Node is a versatile device designed for converting DMX over Ethernet data from various protocols to DMX512 and vice versa. It seamlessly integrates into the grandMA2 system, utilizing a 1Gbit/s Ethernet connection to ensure maximum performance and compatibility with the system's preferred data transfer speed. The device is built with a robust steel housing, making it suitable for both touring and fixed installations.

On the front panel, the MA 2Port Node features a 2" TFT display and four status LEDs for quick and easy monitoring. A menu button allows for navigation and configuration. Additionally, a USB port is provided for optional firmware updates via a USB stick. The rear panel includes a main switch, powerCON and etherCON connectors, and two DMX ports.

The MA 2Port Node can be fully configured via a grandMA2 console, allowing users to define whether each DMX port functions as an input or an output. It is also available in two "onPC" versions, which, when combined with the free grandMA2 onPC software, provide 2,048 parameters (2k Version) or 1,024 parameters (1k Version). The 2Port Node onPC can be further expanded by combining it with the MA onPC command wing and MA onPC fader wing.

Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: Approximately 1.3 kg / 2.9 pounds
  • Dimensions: 210mm x 45mm x 185mm / 8.3 x 1.8 x 7.3 inches
  • Power Supply: 100 – 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz (USA, Canada). The wide-range power supply automatically adjusts to the mains voltage.
  • Required Power Cable: Only adequately insulated and protected cables should be used (min. Ø 3 x 1.0mm²). Cable and connector are not included in the scope of delivery.
  • Required Power In Connector: PowerCon (blue) from NEUTRIK AG, Liechtenstein.
  • Required Power Source Connector: Depends on the technical standard of the respective location. The connector is not included in the scope of delivery.
  • Connection Power: Max. 25 VA
  • DMX Ports: 2x DMX OUT (XLR 5 pin) on the rear side. These can also be configured as DMX IN.
  • Ethernet: RJ45 network connector.
  • USB Port: Connector on the front side, for updates via USB-stick only. No peripheral devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.) should be connected.
  • Display: 2" TFT color monitor.
  • Parameter Capacity:
    • MA 2Port Node: 2x DMX Out
    • MA 2Port Node onPC 1k: Up to 1,024 parameters
    • MA 2Port Node onPC 2k: Up to 2,048 parameters

Usage Features:

  • Configuration: The MA 2Port Node can be fully configured via a grandMA2 console or, for onPC versions, the grandMA2 onPC software. The display shows essential settings, while detailed configuration requires the console or onPC software.
  • DMX Port Configuration: Each DMX port can be individually set as an input (IN) to receive DMX or an output (OUT) to send DMX. The display shows the DMX output frequency (up to 30Hz) and the universe number (1-256).
  • Network Integration: The device supports MANET2 or ARTNET protocols and can be assigned to a specific session ID.
  • Firmware Update: Firmware updates can be performed via a USB stick. The process involves creating a bootable USB stick with the STICKMAKER program and the appropriate installation file (e.g., 4port_v1.x.y.imgz), inserting it into the USB port, and following the on-screen instructions. Updates can also be performed from a grandMA2 console or onPC software, provided the node is on the same network and the console/onPC has the desired software version loaded.
  • Reset and Restore: The device offers options to reset all settings or restore factory defaults. A factory reset will set the IP address to a standard MA-Net IP address (192.168.0.x, where x is derived from the serial number) and configure XLR A and B as Out 1 and Out 2.
  • Status Indicators:
    • POWER LED (green): Solid light indicates the device is ready for operation.
    • LINK LED (green): Solid light indicates a correct connection to onPC or console.
    • DATA LED (green): Blinks during data traffic over the network interface.
    • BOOT LED (red): Signals the boot process.
  • Quick Start: To operate the MA 2Port Node, download and install the grandMA2 onPC software, connect the node to power (100-240V~, 50-60Hz) and the network (RJ45, no cross-cable needed for direct PC/laptop connection). Start the grandMA2 console or onPC, switch on the node, and configure it via the SETUP / NETWORK / MA NETWORK CONFIGURATION / DMX NODE menu. Adjust firmware version, IP address, name, mode, session ID, and DMX port functions as needed.
  • Saving Configuration: Settings can be saved to the hard drive of a grandMA2 console or onPC using the "SAVE TO DEFAULT" button in the SETUP / NETWORK / MA NETWORK CONFIGURATION / DMX NODES menu. Note that "SAVE SHOW" does not save node settings; only "SAVE TO DEFAULT" does.
  • Loading Configuration: If additional 2Ports have been integrated or exchanged, the existing configuration may not apply. New 2Ports must be configured first, and then a new configuration file must be created using "SAVE CONFIG."

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The device requires minimal maintenance. Disconnect the power supply before cleaning. Clean the surface only with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid or compressed air, solvents, or sharp cleaners. Ensure ventilation holes are clear. Professional cleaning every 2-5 years is recommended, depending on the environment.
  • Servicing: Maintenance and repair work must be performed exclusively by qualified personnel. Opening or removing covers exposes live parts, posing a risk of electric shock and harm.
  • Pre-transport/Pre-use Check: Before transport, remove all cables. After transport and before each use, inspect the device for damage (dents, bent or broken parts, damaged buttons or connectors). Do not connect a damaged device to power.
  • Storage and Transport: Use a secure and protective transport device. Avoid placing the device on unstable surfaces or twisting its body. Observe temperature and humidity limits during transport and storage (Operation: 0°C to +40°C / 32°F to 104°F, 20% to 90% relative humidity; Storage/Transport: -10°C to +50°C / 14°F to 122°F, 10% to 90% relative humidity).
  • Safety Warnings: Adhere to all safety instructions, including warnings about electrical shock and hazardous waste disposal. Do not operate the device near water or in humid environments. Ensure adequate ventilation and do not insert objects into the housing slots.
  • Disposal: The device must be disposed of separately as hazardous waste, following local regulations.
