Overview

This document is an operator manual for the MAC AFRIC HCLEAN150 (APW-VSA-150P) High Pressure Cleaner. It provides detailed information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The MAC AFRIC HCLEAN150 (APW-VSA-150P) is a portable, highly specialized, and multifunctional pressure washing machine designed for various cleaning tasks. It is suitable for washing and cleaning cars, bikes, other outdoor equipment, garden patios, and greenhouses. The machine operates with an automatic ON/OFF feature, meaning the motor only runs when the trigger of the spray gun is squeezed, which helps conserve energy and prolong motor life. Before initial use, it is crucial to bleed the gun to expel any trapped air, ensuring a steady stream of water from the nozzle.

Important Technical Specifications

The HCLEAN150 (APW-VSA-150P) boasts robust technical specifications for effective cleaning:

  • Working Pressure: 15 MPa (150 bar)
  • Allowable Pressure: 22.5 MPa (225 bar)
  • Working Flow Rate: 6.8 l/min
  • Max. Flow Rate: 8.5 l/min
  • Max. Pressure Water Supply: 0.4 MPa (4 bar)
  • Motor Capacity: 3.0 kW
  • Power Supply Voltage: 230V~50Hz
  • Max. Water Temperature: 50 °C
  • Weight: 24 kg
  • Dimensions (CM): 93 x 40.5 x 37.5

The machine is designed to be connected to a cold water source only, with an inlet water pressure between 0.01 MPa and 0.4 MPa. It requires a 3-wire extension cord with a grounding-type plug and 3-pole cord connectors if an extension is used, and these must be suitable for outdoor use and watertight.

Usage Features

The pressure cleaner is equipped with several features to enhance its usability and versatility:

  • Adjustable Spray Nozzle: The spray nozzle can be adjusted to produce different spray patterns. Turning the front part clockwise results in fan-shaped sprays (Fig. 1), ideal for cleaning cars or other vehicles, while turning it counter-clockwise produces a linear spray (Fig. 2).
  • Low/High Pressure Adjustable Lance: The lance allows for easy switching between high and low pressure. To use high pressure, ensure the trigger is released, then turn the rear part of the spray nozzle counter-clockwise (Fig. 4). For low pressure, turn the rear part clockwise (Fig. 3). Pressure selection must be done with the gun in the closed position.
  • Detergent Application: The machine includes a container for detergent. To apply detergent, add it to the container and set the Adjustable Spray Wand to the low-pressure position (Fig. 6), then trigger the gun to spray.
  • Hose Reel Handle: A convenient hose reel handle (Fig. 7) can be turned down for use and up for storage, aiding in organization and portability.
  • Safety Lock: The spray gun is fitted with a safety lock to prevent accidental activation, which should be engaged when the machine is not in use.
  • Bleeding the Gun: Before operating, it is essential to bleed the gun by squeezing the trigger for up to 2 minutes until a steady stream of water emerges, removing any trapped air.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The motor runs only when the trigger is squeezed. However, running the machine for more than 3 minutes without depressing the trigger can cause heat damage to the motor and pumps, so it's important to turn off the unit if not actively spraying.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the pressure cleaner:

  • Water Inlet Screen Inspection: The water inlet filter (Fig. 5) must be inspected regularly to prevent blockages and restrictions in the water supply to the pump.
  • Nozzle Cleaning: If debris clogs the nozzle, use the included tip cleaner or an unfolded paper clip to dislodge it. Further debris can be removed by back-flushing water through the nozzle using a garden hose for 30-60 seconds.
  • Storage: The machine should be stored in a frost-free environment. For long-term storage, if the machine has not been operated for a while, scales might form inside, making it difficult to start. In such cases, it is recommended to turn off and disconnect the power supply, then rotate the motor by hand several times to prevent excessive current draw upon restart.
  • General Cleaning: After use, wipe all surfaces of the unit with a damp, clean cloth.
  • Disposal: Electrical machines should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. Users should utilize separate collection facilities and contact local government for information on available collection systems. This is to prevent hazardous substances from leaking into groundwater and affecting health. Retailers are legally obligated to take back old machines for disposal when new ones are purchased.

Safety Regulations

The manual emphasizes numerous safety warnings:

  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities without supervision.
  • Electrical supply connection must be made by a qualified person and comply with IEC 60364-1, including a residual current device.
  • Operate at temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius.
  • Use only cleaning agents supplied or recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Wear ear protectors.
  • Do not direct the jet at persons, animals, live electrical equipment, or the machine itself.
  • Do not spray flammable liquids.
  • Use only manufacturer-recommended hoses, fittings, and couplings.
  • Use only original spare parts.
  • Water that has flowed through backflow preventers is non-potable.
  • Disconnect from power supply during cleaning, maintenance, or when replacing the machine.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 30cm from painted surfaces to avoid damage.
  • Do not use if the supply cord or important parts (e.g., safety devices, high-pressure hoses, trigger gun) are damaged.
  • If an extension cord is used, it must be watertight and have an electrical rating not less than the machine's rating.
  • Do not connect to potable water mains without a backflow preventer.
  • Be aware of kickback force on the spray assembly.
  • Close supervision is necessary when used near children; not for use by untrained persons.
  • Know how to stop the machine and bleed pressures quickly.
  • Stay alert; do not operate when fatigued or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
  • Keep operating area clear of all persons.
  • Do not overreach or stand on unstable support.
  • Do not operate in rain or storm; keep connections dry and off the ground.
  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Do not leave the machine running unattended or unused for more than 3 minutes.
  • Maintain constant water supply when running to prevent damage to sealing rings.
  • Turn on the spray lance within one or two minutes of starting the machine to prevent overheating.
  • Do not start in excessively cold temperatures to prevent freezing.
  • Only use cleaning water; do not use corrosive chemicals.
  • When moving, pull the handle and ensure the machine is on a flat surface.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide for common problems such as the machine not starting, fluctuating pressure, water leaks, motor stopping, and insufficient pressure, providing probable causes and corresponding repair actions.
