Overview

This document describes the MAC ALLISTER MLMP575SP46 Petrol Lawnmower, an outdoor power tool designed for lawn care.

Function Description

The MLMP575SP46 is a petrol-powered lawnmower with a self-propelled function, designed for cutting grass. It offers multiple modes of operation:

  • Grass Collection: Grass clippings are collected in a grass catcher for disposal.
  • Mulching: Grass clippings are finely cut and distributed back onto the lawn as natural fertilizer.
  • Side Discharge: Grass clippings are discharged from the side and spread across the ground.

The lawnmower is equipped with an engine brake (brake bar) to stop the engine and blade automatically when released, and a drive bar to engage the self-propelled function, driving the rear wheels. It also features a battery pack for starting the engine, which needs to be charged using a dedicated charger.

Usage Features

Assembly and Preparation:

  • Handlebars: The product requires assembly of the handlebars, ensuring wires and electric cords are properly clipped.
  • Grass Catcher: The grass catcher (60L volume) is easily attached and removed. It features a hatch (20b) that indicates when it's full.
  • Mulching Insert: For mulching, a specific insert (28) is placed into the rear discharge chute.
  • Side Discharge Attachment: For side discharge, an attachment (29) is fitted, requiring the mulching insert to be removed and the grass catcher not fitted.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be adjusted between 25-75mm using a lever (19).
  • Fuel and Oil: The lawnmower requires unleaded petrol and 4-stroke engine oil (SAE 10W-30). Fuel should be added outdoors, away from ignition sources.
  • Battery Pack: The battery pack (31) must be charged before first use and after prolonged storage. A quick 10-second charge is needed to "wake up" a new battery pack before attaching it to the engine.

Operation:

  • Starting: To start, stand behind the handle, pull the brake bar (2) against the handle (1), and press the START button (24) multiple times until the engine starts.
  • Self-Propelled Function: To engage the self-propelled function, pull the drive bar (3) towards the handle (1). Releasing it disengages the wheels.
  • Mowing Techniques: Mow across slopes, not up and down. Avoid wet grass. Cut no more than one-third of the grass length at a time. Mow in slight overlapping rows for an even cut.
  • Mulching: For optimal mulching, cut about one-third of the grass blade length (max 35mm). Overgrown lawns may require multiple passes at different cutting heights.
  • Emptying Grass Catcher: Empty the grass catcher frequently, ideally when half full, to maintain performance.

Safety Features:

  • Engine Brake: The brake bar (2) automatically stops the engine and blade when released.
  • Safety Interlocks: The product is designed with safety interlocks and operator presence controls.
  • Warning Symbols: Various symbols indicate warnings (e.g., rotating cutting device, hot surfaces, flammable materials, noxious exhaust fumes) and mandatory actions (e.g., wear hearing/eye protection, protective gloves).
  • Electromagnetic Field: The product produces an electromagnetic field during operation, which may interfere with medical implants. Users with implants should consult their doctor.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: Keep the product clean, removing debris after each use. Clean air vents with a cloth and brush. Do not use chemical, alkaline, abrasive, or aggressive detergents.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect for worn or damaged parts, especially cutting devices, bolts, grass catcher, wires, and electric cord.
  • Tightness: Ensure all nuts, bolts, and screws are tight.
  • Lubrication: Lubricate the cutting device after each use.
  • Engine Maintenance: Refer to the separate Briggs & Stratton (B&S) operator's manual for detailed engine maintenance (air filter, spark plug, fuel, engine oil, carburettor, muffler, valve play).

Cutting Device Maintenance:

  • Replacement: The cutting device (blade) should be replaced after 50 hours of mowing or 2 years, whichever comes sooner, regardless of condition. It must be replaced immediately if cracked or damaged. Use original spare part DAYE 263001465.
  • Sharpening: Keep the cutting device sharp for good performance. Sharpening should be done by a qualified specialist.
  • Removal/Installation: The cutting device is removed by loosening the hex bolt (27f) anticlockwise and reinstalling with a new blade, tightening the hex bolt clockwise to 40-50 Nm.
  • Safety during maintenance: Always switch off the product, disconnect the spark plug connector, remove the battery pack, and allow the product to cool down before any maintenance. Wear protective gloves when working on the cutting device. Jack up the product to avoid fuel/oil leakages when working on the underside.

Storage:

  • Preparation: Before storage, switch off the product, disconnect the spark plug connector, remove the battery pack, clean the product, and empty the fuel tank and oil.
  • Location: Store in a dark, dry, frost-free, well-ventilated place, inaccessible to children. Ideal temperature is 10-30 °C.
  • Handlebar Folding: The upper handle bar can be folded for storage.
  • Battery: Always remove and charge the battery pack before storage.

Transport:

  • Preparation: Switch off, disconnect the spark plug, remove the battery pack, and adjust the cutting height to the highest position.
  • Handling: Always transport by the handle. Protect from heavy impact or strong vibrations. Secure the product in vehicles to prevent slipping or falling.
