1. DESCRIPTION.
Temperature regulator SMT-05 v. 3 is a microprocessor-based, programmable temperature
controller, intended for use in comprehensive servicing of milk coolers, beer wort tanks, all types
of dryers, chambers and sterilizing and pasteurizing devices, devices for producing juices, heating
of swimming pools, or for foil tunnels.
The regulator casing is hermetic (IP 65 protection class) and therefore resistant to humidity, dirt and
low temperature; electronics of the regulator is able to work in temperatures up to -10
O
C. The casing
is adapted for wall mounting.
In the set with the regulator there is a temperature sensor in the rubber cover (protection class
IP68), ended with a stainless steel sleeve. The regulator signals the failure of the temperature sensor.
A number of functions that the regulator is equipped with, as well as the ability for the user to create
his own regulator work program, make it a universal controller to manage the operation of the
refrigeration unit and the stirrer, or e.g. the heater and fan.

Overview

The SMT-05 v. 3 temperature regulator is a microprocessor-based, programmable temperature controller designed for comprehensive servicing of various applications, including milk coolers, beer wort tanks, dryers, chambers, sterilizing and pasteurizing devices, juice production equipment, swimming pool heating, and foil tunnels.

Function Description:

The regulator is housed in a compact, hermetic casing (IP 65 protection class), making it resistant to humidity, dirt, and low temperatures, with electronics capable of operating down to -10 °C. It is designed for wall mounting. The device comes with a 5-meter temperature sensor in a rubber cover (IP68 protection class), ending with a stainless steel sleeve. The regulator signals temperature sensor failure. Its extensive functions and user-programmable work programs make it a versatile controller for managing refrigeration units and stirrers, or heaters and fans.

The regulator features:

  • On/Off Switch [1]: For powering the regulator on and off.
  • Automatic Stirrer/Ventilator Disabling Button [2]: To disable automatic operation of the stirrer or ventilator.
  • Manual Stirrer/Ventilator Operation Button [3]: To enable manual operation of the stirrer or ventilator.
  • Digital Temperature Meter [6]: Allows for current temperature control, independent of the regulator's on/off status.
  • LEDs for Status Signaling [7], [8], [9], [10]:
    • Stirrer's Operation Signaling (red LED) [8]: Indicates when the stirrer's motoreducer is switched on.
    • Unit Operation Signaling (red LED) [9]: Indicates when the chiller/heating unit is operating.
    • Cooling Activation Signaling (blue LED) [10]: Indicates activation of cooling/heating mode. If off, and the regulator is connected to mains, it means cooling/heating operation is off, but manual stirrer operation can still be activated.
    • Stirrer Operation Mode Indication (red LED) [7]: No light means stirrer operation is switched off; constantly on means automatic operation; flashes mean manual operation.
  • Input for Limit Switch: Allows connection of an external limit switch, for example, to block the stirrer and chiller when a milk cooler tank flap opens.
  • Control Outputs:
    • Chiller (unit) / heating system control output.
    • Stirrer / ventilator control output.

Key Functions:

  1. Continuous Temperature Measurement: The regulator can continuously measure temperature, even when its control operation is off, provided parameter d1 is set to 1.
  2. Refrigeration System (Chiller) Control: Controls the chiller based on measured temperature when parameter C9 is set to 0.
  3. Heating System Control: Controls the heating system based on measured temperature when parameter C9 is set to 1.
  4. Stirrer or Ventilator Control: Offers various modes depending on FO parameter settings:
    • Automatic Operation: Cyclic operation independent of chiller/heating system; continuous operation during chiller operation (cyclic when chiller is off); operation only when chiller/heating system is on; continuous operation when regulator is on (for dryers); or switched off.
    • Manual Operation: Continuous operation regardless of regulator control status (ended by pressing button [3]); or operation for a strictly defined time.
  5. Blocking Function (Limit Switch): Blocks stirrer and chiller operation when a limit switch is actuated (e.g., milk cooler tank flap opens). Parameter AF controls this. In dryers, it can turn off the ventilator when a door is opened.
  6. Limit Switch Operation Definition: Parameter UU defines whether the limit switch acts as negative or positive.
  7. Chiller (Unit) Operation Supervision: Allows setting maximum and minimum operation times, and minimum standstill time for the chiller (parameters E1 and E2).
  8. Maximum/Minimum Temperature Registration: Records maximum and minimum temperature values throughout the regulator's operating cycle, useful for monitoring storage conditions. This function has a programmable delay (AA) to avoid recording initial pre-cooling temperatures.
  9. Alarm Signaling (Visual and Audible): Alerts when the set temperature range is exceeded (parameters HA and HE). This function also has a programmable delay (AA) to prevent alarms during initial cooling.
  10. Temperature Sensor Damage Monitoring: Displays "ACU" and activates an audible alarm if the temperature sensor is damaged, interrupting chiller and stirrer operation until the fault is cleared.
  11. Adjustable Delay Time: Parameter dE sets a delay for switching on the chiller and stirrer after power decay or re-connection.

Important Technical Specifications:

Usage Features:

  • Programming: The regulator's operating parameters can be programmed to suit specific needs. Default settings are for standard milk cooler control.
  • Setting Mode: Accessed by holding the 'S' button for ~17 seconds. 'UCO' appears, then confirm with 'S'. Enter access code (default 1.2) with '▲'/'▼' and confirm with 'S'.
  • Parameter Selection: Use '▲'/'▼' to select parameters. Press 'S' to enter parameter settings.
  • Value Adjustment: Use '▲'/'▼' to change parameter values. Confirm with 'S' to save.
  • Exiting Setting Mode: Set 'EE' parameter and confirm with 'S', or it exits automatically after 17 seconds of inactivity.
  • Temperature Control: Set control temperature using '▲'/'▼' buttons. A short press displays the current set value; subsequent presses change it. Flashing digits indicate setting mode.
  • Temperature Range Limitation: Parameters b1 (lower limit) and b2 (upper limit) restrict the user's ability to set temperatures outside a safe range. Setting b1=b2 blocks temperature changes. b1 must not be greater than b2.
  • Control Hysteresis (HI): Defines the temperature difference for switching the unit off and then back on. For heating mode, hysteresis works in reverse (switches off when temperature drops below set value).
  • Manual Memory Erasing: Max/min temperature values can be manually deleted.
  • Display Status (d1): When the regulator is off, the display can show a dot (default, d1=0) or the current measured temperature (d1=1).

Maintenance Features:

  • Factory Settings Reset (FA): Setting this parameter to 1 and then cycling power restores all factory settings. The FA parameter automatically reverts to 0 after the reset.
  • Sensor Damage Indication: The "ACU" display and audible alarm provide immediate notification of a damaged temperature sensor, prompting necessary action.
  • Power Loss: Power supply loss clears the regulator's memory of maximum and minimum temperature entries.
