This document provides the owner's manual and installation manual for Comfort-Aire portable air conditioners, specifically models PS-121D and PSH-141D. It covers safety precautions, installation instructions, operating instructions, maintenance, and troubleshooting tips.
Function Description
The Comfort-Aire portable air conditioner is designed to provide cooling, heating (on heat pump models), dehumidification, and fan-only operation for indoor spaces. It is a self-contained unit that can be easily moved between rooms thanks to its integrated casters. The unit exhausts hot air through a flexible hose connected to a window slider kit.
Important Technical Specifications
- Models: PS-121D, PSH-141D
- Refrigerant: R32/R290 (Flammable refrigerants, specific type depends on the model. Refer to the unit's label for details.)
- Cooling Capacity: Measured in BTU/h, with SACC (Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity) being the representative value determined by DOE test procedures.
- Temperature Range for Operation:
- Cool Mode: 62-95°F
- Dry Mode: 55-95°F
- Heat (pump heat mode): 41-86°F
- Heat (electrical heat mode): 86°F
- Power Supply: Requires a properly grounded wall receptacle with appropriate voltage and circuit breaker/fuse protection. Voltage information is on the unit's nameplate.
- Fuse Specifications: T 3.15A/250V (printed on the circuit board).
- Exhaust Duct: Standard installation uses an un-extended exhaust duct (Diameter: 6 in., Length: 60 in.). Some models may support 10-foot extended exhaust ducts using two ducts.
- Room Area: Appliance should be installed, operated, and stored in a room with a floor area according to the amount of refrigerant charged. Refer to the label on the unit itself for specific minimum room area requirements.
- Clearance: Must be located at least 12 inches from the nearest wall. The horizontal louver blade should be at least 19.7 inches away from obstacles.
- Noise Information: Energy rating and noise information are based on standard installation with an un-extended exhaust duct.
- Electrical Heater Clearance: Appliances with electric heaters require at least 3 feet of space to combustible materials.
- System Impedance (for EN 61000-3-11 compliance):
- MPPD-14CRN1-QB6: |Zsys| ≤ 0.346 ohms
- MPPDB-12HRN1-QB6G1: |Zsys| ≤ 0.337 ohms
Usage Features
- Control: Can be controlled via the unit's control panel or a remote controller (included with remote control models).
- Operating Modes: AUTO, COOL, DRY, FAN, and HEAT (cooling-only models without heat).
- Temperature Adjustment: Settings in 1°F (or 2°F) increments within a range of 62°F to 86°F (or 88°F). Temperature display can be switched between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Fan Speed: Four settings: LOW, MED, HIGH, and AUTO.
- Timer Function: Allows setting AUTO ON start time and AUTO OFF stop time programs (0-24 hours).
- Swing Function: Initiates automatic louver swing. Pressing the button again stops the louver at the desired angle.
- Wireless Function (on some models): Initiated by pressing and holding the swing button for 3 seconds. LED display shows 'AP' for setup. Wireless indicator illuminates upon successful connection.
- SLEEP/ECO Operation: Gradually increases (cooling) or decreases (heating) the set temperature by 2°F (or 1°F) over 30 minutes, then another 2°F (or 1°F) after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature is maintained for 7 hours. Not available in FAN or DRY mode.
- Constant Fan Function (on some models): In cooling or Dry mode, pressing the FAN button for 3 seconds turns on/off continuous fan operation.
- Follow Me/Temp Sensing Feature (on some models): Activated via remote control, allowing the remote to act as a thermostat for precise temperature control at its location. Not available in FAN or DRY mode.
- Auto-Restart: If power is interrupted, the unit restarts with previous settings when power resumes.
- Water Drainage:
- Dehumidifying Mode: Requires removing the upper drain plug and installing a drain connector (5/8" universal female mender) with a 3/4" hose (locally purchased) to drain collected water to a floor drain.
- Heating Pump Mode (Model A1): Requires removing the lower drain plug and installing a drain connector (5/8" universal female mender) with a 3/4" hose to drain water.
- Bottom Tray Full Protection (P1 Error): The unit beeps and displays "P1" when the bottom tray is full, stopping cooling/dehumidification. Requires manual drainage by removing the bottom drain plug.
Maintenance Features
- Safety Precautions: Always unplug before cleaning/servicing. Do not use flammable liquids or chemicals. Do not wash with running water. Do not operate with a damaged power cord.
- Air Filter Cleaning: Filters should be cleaned every 2 weeks for optimal performance. Operating without filters can clog the unit and reduce performance.
- Unit Cleaning: Use a damp, lint-free cloth and mild detergent. Dry with a dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh cleansers, wax, or polish on the cabinet front.
- Storage (when not in use):
- Drain the water collection tray completely.
- Run the appliance on FAN mode for 12 hours in a warm room to dry it and prevent mold.
- Turn off and unplug the unit.
- Clean and reinstall the air filter.
- Remove batteries from the remote control.
- Store in a cool, dark place to prevent damage from direct sunlight or extreme heat.
