Vertical Surf Racks: General Information
• Vertical Surf Racks on the ZFT4 towers are designed for Surf
Boards, not intended to be used for wakeboards. The added
weight and sharper edge of the wake boards can damage the
foam and potentially the board.
• Due to the vertical orientation of the boards, the CG of the boards
need to be centered in the fingers to keep the board from rotating
• when hitting waves. If you have issues with the boards rotating
underway, this is likely the contributing factor. Pay attention to
this when installing the boards, especially longer boards, to avoid
issues while underway.
• In some cases, the fingers are nearly the widest point of the boat.
They do not stick out beyond the shock, but caution is needed
when pulling into a slip, especially in wavy conditions, as the
rocking can make the fingers contact tall vertical dock supports
before the rubrail does due the height of the fingers above the
water. Over the tower mooring covers will require the safari racks
to be removed.
Vertical Surf Racks: Installation/Removal
To install the safari surf racks, remove the detent pin from the
mount, and carefully align the pocket in the cross bar with the
groove in the mount. This can be done from inside the boat (bimi-
ni should be stowed for easier access) from the front side of the
tower, however it is best done from a dock if possible.
The assembly will sink, so don’t drop it in the water.
• Be careful when installing and removing the board racks from the
mount. The rear finger can/will hit the tower tube and scuff/ scratch it.
• Once in the groove, the pin hole should easily align. If not, bump
the fingers (normally in the forward direction) to make sure it is
fully seated. If alignment is still off, check for debris or burrs on
the components that would be preventing the alignment.
• Insert the locking push pin to secure the fingers in place.
• Once the locking pin is fully inserted, ensure it is locked by pulling
outwards. If the pin is not secure, or there is not a pin to secure
the racks, do not operate the boat with the racks installed.
• To remove the safari surf racks, remove the push pin by depress-
ing the center button.
• Carefully lift up and rearward to get the crossbar out of the
groove. Again, be careful not to hit the tower tube while doing so.
• Reinstall the push pin in the hole.
• Stow the fingers in a location that will not allow them to shift
during transport. Stowing on upholstery is not recommended.
