Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a Masterforce Wet/Dry Vacuum, model number 240-5236.

Function Description:

The Masterforce Wet/Dry Vacuum is designed for both wet and dry vacuuming applications, capable of picking up liquids and dry materials. It is engineered for optimal performance and is suitable for household use. The vacuum is double-insulated, eliminating the need for a separate grounding system, and uses identical replacement parts for servicing.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: 240-5236
  • Tank Size (Gallons): Refers to the actual tank volume, not the capacity available during operation.
  • Peak HP: A term used for consumer comparison, representing the horsepower output of the motor, including its inertial contribution, achieved in laboratory testing. It does not denote operational horsepower.
  • Hose and Accessories Diameter: 1.25 inches (32 mm).
  • Power Supply: 110V - 120V.
  • Extension Cord Requirements (A.W.G. Wire Size):
    • 0-6 Amps: 18 A.W.G. for 25 ft (7.5 m), 16 A.W.G. for 50 ft (15.25 m), 16 A.W.G. for 100 ft (30.5 m), 14 A.W.G. for 150 ft (45.7 m).
    • 7-10 Amps: 18 A.W.G. for 25 ft (7.5 m), 16 A.W.G. for 50 ft (15.25 m), 14 A.W.G. for 100 ft (30.5 m), 12 A.W.G. for 150 ft (45.7 m).
    • 11-12 Amps: 16 A.W.G. for 25 ft (7.5 m), 16 A.W.G. for 50 ft (15.25 m), 14 A.W.G. for 100 ft (30.5 m), 12 A.W.G. for 150 ft (45.7 m).
    • 13-16 Amps: 14 A.W.G. for 25 ft (7.5 m), 12 A.W.G. for 50 ft (15.25 m), 100 ft (30.5 m) and 150 ft (45.7 m) are NOT RECOMMENDED.
  • Polarized Plug: Features one blade wider than the other to reduce the risk of electrical shock.

Usage Features:

  • General Assembly: Requires a Philips head screwdriver. Involves installing casters and rear wheels, attaching the handle, installing the cartridge filter (for dry vacuuming), installing the foam wet filter (for wet vacuuming), hanging the tool caddy, and connecting the hose and desired accessories/extension wands.
  • Dry Vacuum Operation:
    • Requires the cartridge filter to be installed and tightened.
    • Optional dust collection bag can be flanged onto the inlet port.
    • Ensure the power cord is disconnected before assembly.
    • Verify the switch is in the 'O' OFF position before plugging into an outlet.
    • Turn the motor on by flipping the switch to the 'I' ON position.
    • Features a cord rewind button; hold the plug when rewinding to prevent whipping.
    • Safety Warning: Do not vacuum in areas with flammable gases, vapors, or explosive dusts (e.g., lighter fluid, solvent-type cleaners, oil-based paints, gasoline, alcohol, aerosol sprays, coal, magnesium, grain, gun powder). Do not vacuum toxic materials.
  • Liquid Vacuum Operation:
    • Requires the foam wet filter to be installed over the filter cage; the cartridge filter and dust collection bag must be removed.
    • Ensure the power cord is disconnected and the collection tank is clean before use.
    • Verify the switch is in the 'O' OFF position before plugging into an outlet.
    • Turn the motor on by flipping the switch to the 'I' ON position.
    • When vacuuming large quantities of liquids, do not immerse the nozzle completely; leave a gap for air inflow.
    • Equipped with a float valve that stops suction when the tank reaches maximum capacity (indicated by increased motor speed).
    • After wet vacuuming, turn off the machine, disconnect from power, empty the tank, clean, and dry it to prevent mildew. Remove the foam wet filter and allow it to air dry before storage.
    • Safety Warning: Do not use the cartridge filter for liquid vacuuming. Do not vacuum in areas with flammable gases, vapors, or explosive dusts.
  • Accessories: Includes a hose, extension wand, 2-in-1 utility nozzle, round dust brush, crevice tool, floor combo nozzle, tool caddy, HEPA filter door, and HEPA filter.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance:
    • Always disconnect the power cord from the outlet before maintenance.
    • Disconnect the hose from the vacuum.
    • Undo latches and remove the power head from the collection tank.
    • Clear all dirt or debris from the collection tank and hose.
    • Check the hose, attachments, and power cord for damage.
  • Cartridge Filter (Dry Vacuuming):
    • Remove by turning the retainer handle counter-clockwise.
    • Clean by gently tapping or brushing dirt off. A new filter is recommended for optimal performance.
    • Inspect for tears or small holes; replace immediately if damaged.
    • Do not use if wet; it will clog quickly.
    • Reinstall by sliding it over the filter cage and turning the retainer handle clockwise to tighten.
  • Foam Wet Filter (Liquid Vacuuming):
    • Remove from the power head (when upside down).
    • Wash with mild soap and water solution, then rinse with clean water.
    • Allow to air dry completely before reinstallation or storage.
