NOTE: Refer to supplied Operating Instructions regarding the model you have purchased.
The MAXXFAN installs into a standard Caravan roof opening of 355mm by 355mm.
To determine if your roof opening is correctly sized, simply remove the interior ceiling garnish
trim ring of your existing roof vent and measure the ceiling opening or verify the opening is
large enough by sliding the MAXXFAN interior Garnish trim ring into the opening.
The MAXXFAN is designed for a minimum roof thickness of 50mm to a maximum of
110mm. If your roof thickness is less than 50mm, build additional thickness at the ceiling
opening using wood or other suitable material. Longer Garnish Rings are available to allow
installation in caravans with thicker roof sections.
The MAXXFAN is designed for a nominal 12 Volt DC system and requires a circuit capable
of supplying a minimum of 5 amps to the MAXXFAN. Conrm that the circuit you intend
to use will accommodate the additional load. Use the proper gauge stranded wire for
electrical connections.

Overview

The MAXXFAN is a ventilation system designed for caravans, offering a range of models including the 4000KI, 4500KI, and 4540KI, with additional Deluxe models (7000, 7500) and accessories like the FANMATE. It is designed to fit into a standard caravan roof opening of 355mm x 355mm, with some models also available for 400mm x 400mm openings. The fan is intended for use with a nominal 12 Volt DC system and requires a circuit capable of supplying a minimum of 5 amps.

Function Description:

The MAXXFAN provides ventilation by drawing air in or exhausting it out of the caravan. It features a powerful 10-speed fan motor, capable of moving over 900 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air, ensuring efficient cooling and comfort. The system includes a thermostat for automatic temperature control, allowing users to set a desired temperature, and the fan will operate to maintain it. Depending on the model, the lid can be opened manually or electrically via a remote control. Some models also include a built-in rain shield, allowing for ventilation even during rain without water ingress.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Roof Opening: 355mm x 355mm (standard), also available for 400mm x 400mm openings in Deluxe models.
  • Roof Thickness: Minimum 50mm to maximum 110mm. Longer Garnish Rings are available for thicker roofs.
  • Power Supply: Nominal 12 Volt DC system.
  • Current Draw: Minimum 5 amps.
  • Fan Motor: 10-speed.
  • Airflow: Over 900 CFM.
  • Fuse: Self-resetting fuse on the circuit board.
  • Materials: Flange made of plastic product; caution against solvents like Xylene, Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Acetate, Acetone, and Polysulfide (Thiokol) type sealants during installation. The product is made from UV stabilized Polymers for maximum toughness and durability.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The MAXXFAN is installed by placing it into the roof opening, ensuring the lid hinge faces the front of the vehicle. A continuous strip of Butyl tape or equivalent caulking is applied to the underside of the flange to cover screw holes. Electrical connections are made to the vehicle's 12-volt power supply, ensuring correct polarity (black wire with tag showing (+) to 12V (+) positive supply). Screws secure the flange to the roof, and excess caulk is removed, with additional sealant applied over screw heads and along the flange edge. The interior garnish trim ring is then installed.
  • Controls:
    • Keypad Controls (Manual Opening Models):
      • ON/OFF: Starts or stops the fan.
      • IN/OUT: Reverses the direction of the fan (intake or exhaust).
      • HOLD TO SET AUTO: Activates Auto Mode, where the fan operates based on the thermostat setting. Pressing this key for three seconds enters Auto Mode, and three quick beeps confirm entry. The fan will automatically adjust speed and direction to maintain the set temperature.
      • ARROW (+)/(-): Adjusts the thermostat set temperature up or down by 0.5°C per press.
      • RAIN SENSOR (4500/4540 Models Only): Deactivates the Rain Sensor. The red LED indicates the sensor is deactivated. When active, the Rain Sensor automatically closes the lid if rain is detected.
    • Remote Control (4500KI, 4540KI Models):
      • FAN ON/OFF: Turns the fan on or off.
      • VENT LID POSITION: Opens or closes the vent lid.
      • AIR EXHAUST / INTAKE: Reverses fan direction.
      • AUTO: Activates Auto Mode for automatic temperature control.
      • THERMOSTAT SET TEMPERATURE (+)/(-): Adjusts the set temperature.
      • FAN SPEED (+)/(-): Increases or decreases fan speed.
      • LOW BATTERY INDICATOR: Displays battery status (three black power bars for full charge, fewer bars indicate need for replacement).
      • TRANSMISSION SIGNAL: A beeping sound from the ceiling unit indicates a signal has been received from the remote.
  • Lid Operation:
    • Manual Opening Models: A knob is used to open or close the vent lid. Rotate clockwise to close, counter-clockwise to open. Push "IN" to lock when open.
    • Automatic Opening Models: The lid opens and closes automatically, especially in Auto Mode or upon power loss (closes automatically).
  • Ceiling Fan Mode: For models with this feature, the vent lid can be closed while the fan continues to run, circulating air within the caravan cabin.
  • Rain Sensor (4500/4540 Models Only): Automatically closes the vent lid if rain is detected. If the lid is opened manually, the rain sensor will not close the lid.
  • FANMATE Accessory: Provides superior rain protection with less than 5% airflow restriction. It is a quick, easy, and tool-free installation that slides over the MAXXFAN's mounting tabs and secures with an included clip.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The insect screen is removable for cleaning. Rotate the four retaining knobs 180° and remove the screen. When cleaning the MAXXFAN, disconnect vehicle 12-volt power and use a mild detergent solution.
  • Sealants: Only use caulking/sealant compatible with the plastic flange and roof surface. Avoid materials containing solvents or Polysulfide (Thiokol) type sealants, as they can damage the flange.
  • Troubleshooting: If the MAXXFAN does not beep when power is connected, check electrical connections and 12-volt power availability. The self-resetting fuse can be reset by removing and re-applying power.
  • Warranty: AIRXCEL, INC. provides a one (1) year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects. It does not cover damage due to misuse, improper installation, or accidental/incidental damages.
  • Chemicals: Use only mild soap and water for cleaning. Avoid petroleum containing additives or solvent-based products. Non-compatible chemicals include Ketones, Esters, Acetone, Halogenated Hydrocarbons, Amines, Aromatic Hydrocarbons, and Loctite Formulas. Generally compatible (but in low concentration) chemicals include Acids, Alcohol, Alkalis, Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Mild Soap Solution, Silicone Oil, or Greases.
