The MAXXFAN® is a versatile ventilation system designed for recreational vehicles (RVs), offering a range of models with various features for optimal comfort and air circulation. It is designed to fit into a standard 14 by 14-inch RV roof opening.
The primary function of the MAXXFAN is to provide ventilation within an RV cabin by either drawing fresh air in (intake) or expelling stale air out (exhaust). Many models also offer a "Ceiling Fan Mode" where the vent lid can be closed while the fan motor continues to run, circulating air within the cabin without opening to the outside. This is particularly useful for maintaining air movement in various weather conditions.
The MAXXFAN operates on a 12-volt DC, 5-amp service. Depending on the model, it can be controlled manually via a knob, through a keypad on the unit, or with a wireless remote control.
The MAXXFAN is designed for straightforward installation into a standard RV roof opening. It requires the removal of any existing roof vent and old sealant. The unit must be centered in the roof opening with the lid hinge facing the front of the vehicle. Proper sealing with butyl tape and a compatible caulk (such as Dicor self-leveling lap sealant) is crucial to prevent leaks. It's important to avoid sealants containing solvents like Xylene, Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Acetate, Acetone, or Polysulfide (Thiokol) as these can damage the flange. Electrical connections involve connecting the vehicle's 12-volt positive supply to the MAXXFAN's black wire (marked with a tag showing (+)).
The interior Garnish Trim Ring needs to be trimmed to fit the specific RV roof thickness. This involves measuring the distance from the ceiling surface to each corner of the MAXXFAN Control Plate and cutting the garnish ring 1/4" to 1/2" longer than these measurements to ensure a snug fit.
All parts of the MAXXFAN should be cleaned with mild soap and water only. It is crucial to avoid petroleum-containing additives or solvent-based products, as well as chemicals like Ketones, Esters, Acetone, Xylene, Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Acetate, Amines, Aromatic Hydrocarbons (including Loctite Formulas), or Polysulfide (Thiokol) type sealants. These can damage the plastic components and cause cracking or product failure. When cleaning, ensure the MAXXFAN is OFF and the vehicle's 12-volt power is removed.
The insect screen is designed for easy removal by rotating four retaining knobs 1/2 turn. This allows for cleaning of the screen.
Remote control models require two AAA batteries. The remote typically has a low battery indicator on its display screen, showing one or zero power bars when batteries need replacement.
The serial number label is located underneath the round insect screen, or on the back page of the manual and on the fan control plate under the round insect screen frame. This is important for warranty claims and product identification.
The MAXXFAN comes with a 2-year limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship from the date of purchase. It covers parts only and does not include labor, transportation costs, or damages due to misuse, improper installation, or "Acts of God."
