Overview

The Maypole Universal Front Towing Cover is designed to protect the front of a caravan while it is being towed. It is not intended for use as a storage cover. The cover comes in two sizes: MP9254 for medium caravans and MP9255 for large caravans.

Technical Specifications:

  • MP9254 (Medium Front Towing Cover): Suitable for caravans with a front awning channel width ranging from 225cm (7.38') to 245cm (8').
  • MP9255 (Large Front Towing Cover): Suitable for caravans with a front awning channel width ranging from 245cm (8') to 275cm (9').

Components Included:

  • 1 x universal front towing cover
  • 2 x side securing straps
  • 1 x drawbar safety strap and buckle
  • 2 x corner straps and buckle
  • 1 x storage bag
  • 1 x fitting instructions

Usage Features:

Before Fitting:

  1. Handbrake and Steadles: Ensure the caravan's handbrake is applied and the corner steadies are down for stability.
  2. Dry Exterior (Preferable): While not essential, it is preferable for the caravan's exterior to be dry before fitting the cover.
  3. Cleanliness: The caravan front must be clean and completely free of dust and dirt. This is crucial because in windy conditions, dust and dirt particles caught between the bodywork and the cover can cause abrasion and leave scratch marks on the caravan's paintwork.
  4. Cover Cleanliness: Make sure the inside of the front towing cover does not come into contact with the ground. This prevents it from picking up any dirt or grit that could cause damage to the caravan when the cover is fitted.

Safety Information:

  1. Strap Tension: Do not over-tension the straps, as this may damage the front towing cover.
  2. Secure Fastening: To prevent potential damage to the paintwork caused by the material flapping in the wind, ensure the cover is fastened securely with all straps fully tightened.
  3. Working at Height: If using stepladders or a platform for installation, always follow the manufacturer's safety instructions carefully. The cover should not be fitted from a ladder; ladders should only be used to assist people on the ground if necessary.

Fitting the Cover:

  1. Preparation: Remove the cover from its carry bag and open it, ensuring the inner fleece side faces the caravan front. The side with the straps and the Maypole logo is the exterior face.
  2. Assistance: For easier installation, it is recommended to have two people and use small steps or stepladders.
  3. Loosen Straps: Loosen all side straps and buckles before positioning the cover.
  4. Initial Positioning: Position the cover so that the top edge of the front face is just above the drawbar.
  5. Awning Channels: The caravan must have two side awning channels with openings to fit the cover.
  6. Beading Insertion: Slide the beading found at either side of the cover into the bottom opening of both front awning channels.
  7. Even Sliding: With one person on each side of the caravan, slide the beading up both awning channels evenly until the beading is completely within the channels. Pull back down into the bottom of the channels. The cover should now sit on the drawbar. Sliding each side of the cover up together, keeping the top edge horizontal, will make this process easier.
  8. Centralisation: It is important to ensure the cover is fitted centrally onto the front of the caravan. To centralise, make sure the top and bottom triangular reflectors on the cover are central on the caravan above the drawbar. The bottom of the cover should sit just above the central drawbar.
  9. Adjusting Beading Length (If Necessary): It may be necessary to reduce the length of the awning beading strips. If so, pull the lower end of the awning beading out of the channel and pull down below the bottom end stop of the channel until the cover sits correctly on the drawbar. Carefully measure before cutting off the excess beading. Re-insert the end of the beading into the awning channel and pull down to the end stop.
  10. Top Straps: Once the cover is central and sitting just above the drawbar, adjust the top straps to create tension at the top of the cover.
  11. Side Straps: Repeat the tensioning process for all side straps, ensuring the cover remains central and evenly covers the front of the caravan.
  12. Excess Webbing: Once fully tensioned, thread any excess webbing straps through both plastic clips.
  13. Corner Straps: Locate a corner strap and insert the male buckle into the female buckle found at the bottom of the cover. Pass the strap under the bodywork of the caravan and attach the hook to a fixed metal structure (e.g., a corner steady or chassis). Ensure it is secure and cannot become detached during travel. Repeat this process with the opposite corner strap.
  14. PVC Window: Secure the opposite male buckle to the female buckle at the corner of the PVC window. If necessary, adjust the position of the cover to ensure the caravan's lights are visible through the PVC window. Fully tension and thread any excess webbing straps through both plastic clips.
  15. Drawbar Safety Strap: Locate the drawbar safety strap and insert one end into the female buckle found at the bottom of the cover. Pass the strap under the drawbar and secure it into the opposite buckle. Fully tension and thread any excess webbing straps through both plastic clips.

Warning: Ensure the cover is secure and correctly fitted to your caravan before starting your journey. Check frequently during your journey.

Removing the Cover:

The process for removing the cover is the opposite of the fitting process. Remove the cover carefully to prevent damage to the cover and your caravan caused by dirt or grit that may have accumulated during your journey.

Maintenance Features:

Care Instructions:

  1. Drying: Allow the cover to dry completely before storing it in the provided storage bag.
  2. Cleaning: Do not machine wash or tumble dry this cover. Remove dirt with a soft sponge and warm water.
  3. Detergent: DO NOT use detergent for cleaning.
  4. Heat/Ignition Sources: Do not expose this cover to sparks, flames, or other sources of ignition.
